Family Troubles

My dad is the one who introduced me to Star Wars, and I have loved it ever since I: saw ANH. I loved it when Luke destroyed the Death Star. It was my favorite part, shortly after seeing ANH I saw ESB and ROTJ. I was around the age of 6 when I had seen the OT. I dint understand the entire concept of the movies. I just loved watching the space and lightsaber battles, but I had a major lack of interest in the conversations between characters. Around the age of eight I re-watched the films and acctually payed attention to the dialouge, I then loved the OT even more!! It was around the age of 9 when TPM came out and my mom took me to see it, my dad stayed home and never did see it. I was then around 11 when AOTC came out, I was so excited. My dad skipped this one too and my mom took me. I thought it was so amazing seeing Yoda use his saber for the first time!! Finally of the age of 13 I saw ROTS. My entire family went with me, My mom, dad, and brother.

Shortly after my ROTS experiance I joined Hyperspace and started my blog. I told my parents about all the different blogs I read and eve they read a few. I remember before I purchased hyperspace when still on my 7-day trial my mom told me it was great I found something such as Star Wars that brought me so much joy

But lately....they get nothing but angry if I even mention aNYTHING that has to do with Star Wars. I understand maybe I went overboard with telling them about all the different blogs, but I dont see how they could have gone from Happy I loved star wars...to saying they were tired of me talking about it. Even if Im not talking. Like last night I was reading an article in my insider and my parents started a conversation among themselfs about me being obsessed.

I may just cut out with the blogging for a while and just prospone on finishing Labrynth of Evil so maybe they will stop saying Im obssessed. I almost cant strike up a conversation with either one of them without them bringing up my love of star wars and blogging.

What should I do?

Geez that sucks ! You're allowed 2 be obsessed if you want 2 . They shouldn't be mad at you 4 loving sw and when you love something its only natural that you're gonna talk about it , like me , I love dogs and talk about them alot , it drives my sis nuts! But its my interest [ of course I also talk about sw like crazy ] and I can talk about if I want 2. Maybe you should ask them why they are mad .

Shatterpoint: yeah it does suck, I love star wars and I have a lack of people I know to talk about it with, so I tend to just tell anyone around, which happenes to be them lol. And Shatterpoint you should go on a 7day trial so you can start a blog of your own. I think you would be an awsome blogger. And I would hate to cut down on my blogs.

And they paid for 1/2 of my hyperspace fee, they are just getting sick of the star wars talk.

Obsessions are wonderful things, but people who don't have the same obsession can't usually stand hearing about it.

My sister plays basketball for two different teams, and coaches another. I hate hearing about it, because it dominates conversational topics throughout the week. Practice, games, rosters changing, I can't stand it.

But she doesn't stop playing because I don't like it.

I think you should keep blogging, keep loving your obsession. There is a whole community of fans right here for you to talk to about your obsession. Say all you need here, and talk to your family about other things, and they should get off your back about it.

And, on the topic of ROTS, I'm 17 and went at midnight on the first night with my friends. There were five in that group, and of all the people who went to that screening only eight were in costume. Sure, we got strange looks from people seeing other films (we were in the que for 5 hours

), but it was something we wanted to do, and we had a great time.

No idea if that anecdote helps, I guess I'm just trying to say obsessions are ok...

(Old man mode on): They're probably just concerned. 13 is a fairly influential age and they're worried that your youthful (and likely somewhat tiring to your parents, due to the excitement I suspect you speak of such things they don't really understand

) obsession will develop into a life-long unhealthy obsession.

I wouldn't necessarily slow down on blogging, you mention you have a lack of people to talk to about it so the blog system can be an "out". You may want to cut down on reading/commenting on blogs though. Due to the time factor involved. Er... except mine of course!

So anyway, balance is the key. (Old man mode off)

Thanks 4 the compliment Jedi Abba , I really want my own blog but the free trial thing doesn't show up anymore when I'm on this website and I'm not sure if it's available 4 me anymore, but I've been told that I'll be getting hyperspace 4 Xmas . And if you wanna talk about sw with someone you can IM me if you have AIM [ my sn is the same as on this website ] , my sister gets lost when I try 2 talk about sw with her , lol .

Its funny when I try 2 talk bout sw with my sis cuz Ihave 2 think of ways 2 explain who they are [ she likes sw but only knows main characters and stuff like that ] so talkin bout sw with someone who understands is fun .

date Posted: Nov 27, 2005 12:55 AM That's no good...if you have a passion for SW then keep doing SW things. There should be no one to stop you. And the thing about LOTR not as good as SW...I love LOTR and SW the same so don't put LOTR down! No offence.
