A blog for you Turkey Day Celebrators
Here we are at last, fourth Thursday of the month, also know as Thanksgiving....or Turkey Day. B-) In this blog I will be honoring Thanksgiving with a few common facts, and how my family celebrates the day.

My family celebrates Thanksgiving by cooking some of the most eaten dishes of the Thanksgiving feast, of course including the turkey. I usually spend the day with my parents, brother, grandparents, aunt, uncle, and cousin. My brother, cousin, and I usually pick out a movie to watch while my dad cooks the turkey. My grandma, mom, and Aunt usually cook the stuffing, ham, mashed potatoes, and other important side dishes. While of course you could find my uncle and grandpa watching a Cowboys game on TV. Since my cousin is only two we we cant watch any star wars films. (even though he can name most of the major Jedi's, Yoda, anakin, obi-wan, mace windu, Luke, and even Han solo, Leia, padme, and chewbacca) So we will probably end up watching a cartoon like Madagascar or The Lion King. :p Once everything is cooked we sit at two different tables really close and eat. lol

Here's some common Turkey Day dishes:

of course the Turkey, cranberry sauce, Sweet Potatoes, rolls, corn, peas, squash, and stuffing

and of course we could never forget the deserts! pumpkin pie, Apple pie,
and lots of other pies.

Now lets talk about the origins of Thanksgiving:

The first thanksgiving was said to take place around December of the year 1621. The Pilgrims used Thanksgiving as a three day feast to celebrate having a good harvest. It became a national holiday around the time of 1863 when Abraham Lincoln said it should be the last Thursday of the month of November. Occasionally Thanksgiving would have taken place on a fifth Thursday. Later on President Roosevelt said it should be moved to the fourth Thursday to expand the Holiday shopping period.

If you have any comments about different things your family may do Thanksgiving day feel free to comment on this blog.

Have a great Thanksgiving,
Jedi Abba :D

Lol cool. And he can't watch SW cause he's 2? My brother Noah was watching them at 1 and he's 2 now and still watching them! (And LOTR.) He can Gollum like Gollum (I do it better though lol), make Yoda's humming sound, hum The Phantom of the Opera song, and walk like a Orc and Gollum. (Not to brag lol) ]:)

Well the point of us watching a movie is to keep the younglings attention so they arnt bothering the people trying to prepare the meal. And Star wras just dosent keep his attention yet.

Depends what kind of games you mean

A woman Named Sarah Hale wrote letters to everyone she could for about 20 years to create Thenksgiving, she felt a "family Holiday" was needed where people could be thankful, Lincoln finally created the holiday, however. Rossevelt moved, but then switched it back. At the first Thanksgiving, mostly venison was eaten, thanks to the Indians.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I got most of my information from various books my school has, but I never came across the name Sarah Hale, and I totally agree family holidays are needed.
