 | How could Luke NOT know? |
 As we all know Luke grew up on the planet of Tatoonie with his uncle Owen and Aunt Beru. Anakin also spent 6-9 years of his life as a child on the same planet as a slave with his mother. In TPM he wins the podrace he participates in making him the only human to ever finish or win a race! So how could Luke know such little about his father? Anakin must have been a legend in the area. Luke growing up in the same area would have caused him to know a bit more about him...right? When Luke meets up with Ben after searching for R2 he hears a lot of information about his father for the first time.
Is Luke just totaly clueless?
what do you think?

he lives isolated from society, and not so near the town anakin grew up in, so there would be no metion of him, and even if there was, no one would know it was his father, he left tatooine when he was 9- duh.

in AOTC Anakin and Padme go to find his mother and go to the moisture farm...and it dosent seem that far lol. theres another book I should read

MM, It doesn't seem that far because they had a starship, hehe.
By the way, jedi_abba, the link for my stories will be soon, cause I'm at final tests at school. I promise they will be finished soon. I hope you like also Starcraft and Magic The Gathering tales.

Yeah his uncle secluded him on the other side of the planet not to mention he hardly got
in touch with his friends and when he did get out nobody knew annakin was vader
except for ole ben and the emperor.

Plus, podracing was made illegal after TPM. And don't forget the totalitarian Empire cracked down on a lot of things too.

Good point.
I am not sure but I don't think Luke knew his fathers name until obi wan tells him.
Plus everyone on Tatooine probably knew that Anakin turned to Vader so they wouldn't want to talk about him.

1) No-one but Palps, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Bail and the droids knew Anakin was Vader
2) Mos Espa was on the other side of the planet, and I doubt there wouldn't be more important things to worry baout than who won a podrace 32 years ago
3) In public Luke went by the last name Lars and only adopted his father's name after his aunt and uncle's death, because they wouldn't mind
4) Luke had rare contact even with his best friends and they would hardly leave their homes far enough to hear more than gargantuan events

Like most with adopted/foster/relatives as parents, Luke didn't come into his own til his late teens when he wanted to go into the academy like his friends. That's the age when you want to know who you are, explore your heritage and make something of yourself. Anakin didn't really have as much of a problem leaving his mother when he was young, then when he was older, he knew how important family was.

From this VIP forum post: There is no such evidence of Luke being referred to as Luke Lars. Being a Skywalker on Tatooine doesn't raise any flags. The galaxy-at-large does not know that Anakin Skywalker became Darth Vader.
I agree, I think people WOULD have commented on something along the lines of "Hey you were named after that hero of the Clone Wars?" or "Were you named after that one-shot-wonder podracer?" and Luke's responce would be something along the lines of... "Heh, no, no. I get that all the time. My father was a navigator, he didn't even fight in the war."

Luke also knows very little of his father because Owen and Beru wanted him not to be anything like Anakin. That's why he was also told to stay away from Obi-Wan so he couldn't find out more about his father.

I have also thought about this alot. In a new hope, they kindof act like its so long later like:
"your sad devotion to that ancient religion....
like, it was only 20 years ago right? So i really dont know how he does not know anything....
