Like I said in my Thanksgiving blog I am going to try and make a blog about every major holiday...well here we go, a Christmas blog! Just like the Thanksgiving blog I made I will tell a bit about the origins of Christmas...and some of the Christmas traditions!

The word Christmas comes from the words Cristes maesse, or "Christ's Mass." Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus for members of the Christian religion. Most historians peg the first celebration of Christmas to Rome in 336 A.D.

One of the best things about Christmas for the little younglings must be Santa Claus! Yes for us older ones the best thing about Christmas must be being able to be with our family members.

Santa Claus was adapted from a bishop in Turkey by the name of St. Nicholas. He was raised by a set of wealthy parents and later on when he grew up he told many about the story of Christ and helped fill his country with Christmas spirit.

It was only appropriate that Santa Claus be named after St. Nicholas. Now Santa helps spread Christmas joy in a different way than St. Nicholas did.

Some random Christmas Facts
* In Hawaii, Christmas starts with the coming of the Christmas Tree Ship.

* "Jingle Bells" was first written for Thanksgiving and then became one of the most popular Christmas songs.

* If you received all of the gifts in the song "The Twelve Days of Christmas", you would receive 364 presents.

* The first state to recognize the Christmas holiday officially was Alabama

* Christmas became a national holiday in America on June, 26, 1870.
