Here is a letter I have e-mailed to the birthday girl (it's 1:30 am here in Chi-town...so it's totally her b-day). I thought I'd add a few yodacons and share it with you wonderful people!
Dear Carrie,
Happy birthday! I could ask the expected, "How does it feel to be one year older?" or "What are your goals for this next year of your life?" but that would just be silly. What I really want to say is "thank you." Thanks for all the inspiration you've sent my way. You are a true Princess in every sense of the word (though slightly unconventional
), and you have been completely open and honest about the hardships of living as Hollywood royalty. The difficulties life has thrown you are more than enough to justify your giving up, yet you never did. You plowed through it all and came out on the other side an even stronger woman...and with a few great books to show for it.
You could have disappeared into the crowd of fading movie stars, yet you chose to share your struggles and newfound wisdom with whomever would listen. I wouldn't have found the strength to really look inside myself if it wasn't for the example of people like you. You taught me that it's OK to admit I'm not strong enough to do it all myself, but also that unknown strength lies within me just waiting to be discovered.
You, Carrie Fisher, have given me a role model (yes, here's the Star Wars bit) to admire and an example of strength to strive for. You took the helplessness out of the fairy tale and showed the world just how amazing women in this galaxy and the next can be.
Thank you for being strong. Thank you for being honest. Thank you for being yourself!
Happy birthday, Carrie.
Forcefully,
JP77
OK, that last little signiture I didn't actually send to her...I refrained from nearly all the SW references I was oh so tempted to use (for her sake and sanity!) and used my real name.
Please, share with me and the rest of the greatest bloggers in the galaxy what Carrie means to YOU. Come on, you know she deserves it!
