I Don't Know Where You Get Your Delusions...

Apology accepted, Jedi Princess.
The holidays are an interesting time. They seem to encourage us to set aside our differences and ignore what separates us for just a moment. Perhaps we feel the need to clean the slate and disregard the past for the sake of enjoying the time we have together. At least this is the case in my town/home/heart. This year, however, that is something I cannot do. I refuse to ignore the fact that I have messed up. I'm going to rip off those band-aids if it means the wounds I've caused in others can finally heal properly. This entry is dedicated to two very special people (sorry to be all "inside" about it, but you know who you are), and though my pal Sithy may never read this, we've talked about it already, so I know he's gotten the message. But, at the same time, this is meant for ALL.

I don't think the world likes to admit when it's wrong, or apologize when such words would solve a great many problems. How do I plan to change the world? By changing myself.

To everyone I've ever (and never) met:

I'm sorry.

I'm sincerely sorry that you've been hurt, that you are hurting right now. I'm sorry that you've lost something or someone dear to you. I'm sorry that violence, selfishness, hate, and greed reign in our society. I'm sorry for life's injustices. I'm sorry that bad things happen to good people. I'm truly sorry that life is so often unfair. But most of all, I'm sorry for everything I've done to contribute to that. I've said and done things that shouldn't have been. Moreover, I've not said and done things that desperately needed to be. Who am I to accept a situation for what it is, instead of trying to make it better? Who am I to not be there when you need me most?

For every time I've let you down or not stood up for you, I'm sorry. For every time my pride won the battle over humility, I'm sorry. For every time I should have apologized, but didn't...I'm sorry. I know this can't make up for all those times I've come up short, but I pray it's a start. I'm all about new beginnings these days, so please forgive me and help me start over.

As they say in Star Wars:

TPM

"Oh, sorry!"-TC14

jp, what a wonderful essay! It really is quite moving.

As you so deftly point out, saying "I'm sorry" should be so easy, but it is the hardest thing for most people to say. Besides "I love you", "I'm sorry" are probably the two most powerful words in our language (okay, maybe the most powerful since "I love you" consists of three words!). They can heal the widest rifts.

Remember, we always are evolving, and part of being human is making mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them. Luke did. Han did. Leia, well, she was pretty darn close to perfect, IMO! Looked what happened to Anakin when he couldn't learn from his mistakes. . .

That was positively beautiful, JP77. Very moving indeed, you can sense the emotion put into this, just lovely. This is perfect for the Holidays at hand, you've done a wonderful job with expressing your inner self and letting go of your fears. Courageous and very dignified.

Oh, jp, whatever will we do with you? I am convinced that you are the most caring and considerate human being I've never met, and here you are proving me right again. Just for future reference, you never have to apologise to me for anything, because you've already done me enough kindness to excuse you for at least one lifetime.

Very beautifully written, JP77...and very well thought-out. Saying *I'm sorry* truly is one of the more difficult things we need to do in our lives. Admitting our mistakes and the hurt it caused to say those words is a most daunting task.

It's hard to completely forgive the past. If we can truly make peace with our past then we can place all our energy in the present, not grieving or dwelling on past mistakes. (look up Ayurveda healing techniques or Caroline Myss [she is brilliant])

Basically people who have all their energy in the present can perform MAJOR healing miracles. these are people like mystics and monks. real life miracles happen like this.

Unconciously many people are investing a Majority of their energy to fruitless enterprises like dwelling on the past. To truly break with your past is challenging because it involves cutting all unconcious ties to the past as well.

May the Force be with you and May the Valar protect you

As for this post..... Wow. I don't know what else to say! You're right, there's so much more we can all do to make this world better. Yes I'm a journalist, and one of the things I like is when you get to write something that sheds light on a person or a good cause, and really makes a difference. Which is exactly what you've done here.

AMAZING job.
