Back when I thought the Holiday Special extravabloganza was going to cover as many major holidays as possible, I got my new friend Admiral thinking. Then, I decided to concentrate my studies on one particular holiday: BFD. (Note: if you are confused at this point about BFD, please read
this and
this.) He sent me something Halloween-ish, but it fits in perfectly with one BFD tradition I need to share you, with my fellow blogsters.
GFFAers dress up for BFD! It's true, I tells ya! My source is a darn good one and that's what he heard from his cousin's neighbor's best friend's former roommate in Philly who once spent the afternoon with Steve Sansweet's housekeeper. Gotta be true, right?
Anyway, so most of the dressing up (as in our own Halloween tradition) is done by the kiddies. It started out as a Jedi/Rebel pilot kinda thing 10 years or so after the event itself. Kids would pretend to be Luke and Nien Nunb (though sadly his popularity dissipated after just a few short years) and Wedge. It was wonderful. There was even a Ewok baby or two. Then, the kids would start to dress up as Vaders and Palpatines and scout troopers and play the classic "good guys/bad guys" children's chasing games. Beautiful, kids. Beautiful.
The tradition still stands in that galaxy far, far away, as far, far as I know. (Although last I heard it had exploded into a dress-up-as-any-thing-person-droid-you-want event.) So, in honor of BFD...I did a little
dressing up myself!
See? I went as Ceremonial Leia this year (surprise, surprise). Look at the
pretty jewelry! And the
hair, of course. And my proudest accomplishment to date:
the freakin' awesome belt. Here's the
doll I based my costume off of (slightly inaccurate, yes, but I am horrible at drafting my own patterns if I can't see and touch them). I hear
PS77 went as a picnicking Padmé this year, though she has plenty of costumes to choose from. PS77 has had some trouble lately convincing her family that she in fact NOT too old for BFD costuming fun...but I'm pretty sure she won't be having too much trouble anymore, courtesy of some
K-person. There's this other
lady I know who has slaved away in honor of BFD costumes for her children! Thank you, on behalf of BFD costumers everywhere. You are leaving a legacy; a path your children CAN follow.
Though his tale was too lengthy for me to put here (SORRY
Admiral! Please don't de-activate me!) I posted it up
right here for ya. This guy has some serious writing talent, let me tell you. His account is beautiful and involves blue paint. I highly recommend it. (Admiral- I can't thank you enough for sending me this!!!!!)
Let me take this opportunity to introduce you to someone very special. She has been indispensable in my costuming efforts. Meet my sewing droid,
MT2200 (Em). Yes, we had some issues with the upper thread, but I had a nice talk with her and got all that straightened out. No bobbin trouble, even! (Love ya, Em!

)
Nobby, I must warn you...I think Em has a little thing for FX-9. Every time he comes up in conversation she gets all flustered and starts spitting oil. We may have a situation on our hands.
And I suppose a costume review is in order as well:
Ceremonial Leia: Done, done, and done!
Senatorial Leia: Working on it. Fabric issues! GAH! I hope to have the collar and hood attached and the pieces for the belt cut & coated by the end of the week.
Bespin Leia: Oh geez...I should have started cutting by now.
Slave Leia: Hehehe, yeah. I have a game plan, but I seriously need to get in shape for this sucker. Shouldn't you all be encouraging me? Who wants to see me in this at C4? It just might have to be replaced with something like
Padmé's Pearl Nightgown: The plans are in order, thanks to PS77!
Tomorrow, another BFD tradition will receive its due. You won't want to miss this, people. Warm up your vocal cords!!
Forcefully,
JP
