....now I am the master!"
Can it really be almost over? By tomorrow night (or early thursday morning actually) the saga will be complete. I still remember stumbling into the drive-in snack bar back in '76 in Great Falls MT when the manager was putting up the "Coming to your Galaxy" poster for the original Star Wars....my interest was piqued. He had a press kit with some black & white photos. The trinity of Han, Luke & Leia on the Death Star...Sir Alec, hood up in the hallway, R2 & Threepio in the desert...and most intriguing of all....that amazing masked & helmeted figure cast jet-black against that sterile white hallway. I must have stood there for quite a while just gazing at those pics! A friend came in looking for me wondering where thos drinks I was supposed to be getting were and she too became entranced by those pics....
It was a long few months til the summer of '77 finally came and we finally got into the theater to see that movie. No internet sites spilling each and every detail....no cable news shows endlessly hyping it....no rack of magazines popping eye-searing covers trumpeting it's arrival....not at all like today.
From those opening Fox drums to that incredible blast of the now-classic Williams fanfare to first endless image of that huge ship passing overhead...it was love at first sight and the start of a long wonderous journey that has brought alot of joy and thrills over the years.
Now here we are...almost 30 years after that fateful night and the final leg of that journey is here....
I look forward to coming back here on thursday and sharing my views on this momentous occasion....see you in line!
