Anakin's Jedi Outfit
I read an intersting blog regarding Obi-Wan's multitude of Jedi Robes and began to think about the uniform Anakin wears in Ep 2 and Ep 3.

While Anakin's outer robe was brown like everyone else's, his inner clothing, and his vest especially, was a dark brown, and was close to being black. Even his trousers were darker. Why is that? (I'd include a picture, but i can't get them on my PC. I'll do it at home.)

It seems to be that the Jedi Council would want Anakin to blend in with the rest of the Jedi and not be singled out, even if he was the "Chosen One." They should have made him wear the normal clothes of the Jedi. Anakin had enough of an ego that making him look different would not have helped. Did the Jedi Temple run out of light brown trousers? Couldn't they have ordered a new set from the local market?

Maybe Lucas wanted to foreshadow Anakin's future self as Darth Vader by giving him a darker wardrobe.

Speaking of certain Jedi standing out, why does Aayla have all that cleavage going on? Nevermind... I think I already know the fanboy answer to that one... :p

yeah I think the simple answer is DARK COLOR = BAD GUY in movies since time immemorial, at least until George mixed it up by making the Stormtroopers WHITE in ANH...but yeah I think it was just that simple as to why it was dark in the film.

as for an In Universe explanation...perhaps Anakin chose his darker colors just to seperate himself from his fellow Jedis in just that way, but Im sure there probably want that much of a RULE on what colors were or were NOT allowed for a Jedi.

Plus, darker colors are easier to keep CLEAN, right? ;)

Well, if Anakin's robes/clothing were different than everyone else I could see that, but if it was just different than Obi-Wan's, then you could say that everyone has their personal opinon.

I second JP's answer;) :)

I aslo think it was the whole symbolism thing. Darth Vader all black
Anakin wearing black was for-shadowing his future.

Definitely some foreshadowing goin' on... though I never thought about how the inner layer was dark, while the outer remained the same. Cool!

BTW, happy belated birthday! I've been so out of it that I forgot to mention it last week!

I think the whole "transitioning to the Dark" thing is pretty much the reason why Anakin's outfit is much darker than the others. As far as an in-universe explanation goes, I think that they probably had their choice of color schemes, haha. There are other Jedi, like Even Piell, whose ensembles are on the darker side as well. :D

Black is slimming. :D

GL said in an interview or documentary that Anakin wearing black was foreshadowing his turn to the Dark Side.

Luke wore black at the beginning of ROTJ - wasn't that to signify that he was in danger of, or vulnerable to, turning to the Dark Side?

He's not really wearing black, it's dark brown. But besides that, Anakin was egotistical and probably thought he was different from everyone else, and wanted that to show. No toeing the line for him, he was too self-centered.

Good blog ... I also blogged about this topic a little while ago, if you'd like to read my thoughts on the subject.

Definite foreshadowing with the colours, though.

Ah, the symbolism of color. ;) A cowboy's black hat. Anakin's dark attire. And, yes, even Luke :x wore black in ROTJ. What's up with that? (I have my own opinion about that. I just thought I'd throw that in. ;)

But, you know, Anakin wasn't the only Jedi of the Old Order who went his own way as far as clothing choice was concerned. Since some Jedi Masters fashioned their own idea of Jedi garb, I see no reason why Anakin, or any other Jedi for that matter, couldn't decide for him/herself what to wear. I know the traditional attire made a Jedi more easily identifiable. Sometimes, though, it was best to blend in, or even stand out. ;)

I don't think the Jedi care what the members wear that much.

Some Jedi, like Aayla, and Luminara/Bariss, don't wear anything close to the traditional wear of Jedi. I don't see the problem, in universe, with Anakin going for darker colors. I'm glad he did. They look good on him :D:D
