According to my blog page, this is my 9th blog and the first one since the end of July. Man, it's been a
long time.
My Star Wars fandom is well-known around work, and I don't hide it. I wear a Star Wars shirt at least once a week and I have Star Wars stuff all over my desk and computer. This year's vacation time was spent with thousands of other Star Wars fans in Los Angeles, CA. My co-workers make fun of me regularly, but I don't mind-it comes with the territory. One of the most commonly asked questions, (beside are you crazy) is if I collect Star Wars items and if so, what do I collect. So this is my answer.
I've been asked numerous times if I collect Star Wars figures and before this year, I would have answered in the negative. My reasoning was it was too expensive to collect every figure that has come out in the last 10 years, which was the beginning of my die-hard fandom. It wasn't because I didn't want to collect all the figures, but I couldn't afford to spend $3 to $4 dollars a pop (now it's $7 to $8 dollars a pop.) When you consider buying two or three figures at a time, you're spending thousands of dollars. So I didn't buy many, although I do have a few that I bought around the time Attack of the Clones came out.
I focused my collecting efforts on other items, such as Master Replicas Force FX sabers and .45 Scale saber hilts. I have a number of Star Wars themed board games as well as different sets of the OT VHS videos. (That's an interesting story that I'll explain later.) For the most part, my collection consisted of random items that I've found on eBay for reasonable prices. The first "complete set" that I obtained was the M&mpire figures.
I mentioned that I didn't collect figures until this year. I started collected the 30th Anniversary figs mainly to get the coins, but I have to figure out what I wanted to do with the figures. I guess I could have sold them on eBay as loose items, but I didn't really want to deal with the eBay seller stuff. I could have given them to my brother for him to sell but I wasn't sure if he still was selling things still. So I kept them. I bought a couple of bookcases for other purposes and decided to use them for Star Wars stuff. So I'll be organizing my Star Wars collection this weekend and will hopefully have it done.
You might be reading this and wondering why I don't have any pictures up. Well, this blog is an intro to my collecting. I am hoping that I will have a new blog done once a week or so that will highlight certain aspects of my ever-growing collection.
Remember, The Force will be with you, Always.
