Welcome to my little blog full of all of my little thoughts. I somewhat swore to myself that I would never write one of these insipid and self-serving journals, but with the addition of Star Wars and a community that in SOME part shares the same experiences, I think it's time I weighed in.

1. Psychology of the Fan: Early Explorations
Last night I was trying to set up my blog, in the course of which I started searching for any other names the early Jedi had gone by, when they were still an order primarily of philosophers. I kept running into primarily political sites or review sites. This link will send you to an article that is both, from "Suburban Chicago Newspapers"
http://www.suburbanchicagonews.com/entertainment/movies/e19brewwars.htm
I'm going to set the political issues aside for the moment, other than to offer you the reader this tidbit of my personality: I am thoroughly disillusioned with modern politics and politicians. I adhere to neither of the American parties and I'm not all that fond of what parties I know from other nations (or for that matter, American third parties). I DO have a political allignment, which can only be defined as idealist and stupid.
Right now my focus is on fandom. I truly, deeply enjoyed Episode III and with the exception of a couple nit-picky problems, there wasn't anything wrong with it. Allow me to clarify. Episodes I and II had systematic errors running throughout the films. Episode III had no such problems, just a couple rough spots that failed to ruin a film that exceeded my admittedly cynical expectations.
I knew, bedrock knew, that some (or most) critics would come out bashing the film, as they always have. In the past 6 years I have capitulated to them, despite the fact that it hurt (yes, I'm enough of a fan that people bashing Star Wars DOES hurt my little feelings) but now that we have a product which succeeds, it's even worse. So one would think "well since it hurts he will stop searching out these reviews." Not so, noble reader. I kept seeking them out, reading them obsessively. I don't think I'm the only one who does this either.
The
REASON behind this continues to elude me. Is it some self-loathing desire? Is it some attempt to escape the fandom that has, in fact, helped me keep myself seperate from others? I don't have an answer yet, this is yet another of the mysteries of fan psychology I have to unravel.
2. Peek into the future of the blog
Well, I think my next entry shall probably kick off a series of what I really hope to do with this blog. Unfortunately, I'm in an apartment near my College/University and the majority of my books are at home, so my ruminations will be pretty much limited to what I have on the shelves until I can go home. I'll examine some of the best novels from the Expanded Universe, or rather those heavy in philosophy, be that good or bad. In this way I can provide both philosophical discussion and also pure reviews of what's good and not so good in the explorations of the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
