Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen!
Today's entry kind of blends in with yesterday's entry, even though it's along slightly different lines.
There's a saying that goes:
"Quitters never win." Perhaps. But it doesn't automatically render one a loser, either. As an example, Anakin lost his battle with Obi Wan, not only due to his defiant attitude, but also because he didn't know when to quit. He doggedly persisted even when it was obvious that Obi Wan was in a superior position. Had he quit, he wouldn't have experienced the horrible defeat that he did. See
yesterday's entry for more details.
In the case of Yoda vs. Sidious, Yoda knew when to quit. Yes, he had been deprived of his lightsaber, but hey, he could use the Force as his weapon. And he could also deflect force lightning with his bare hands. So why didn't he brush himself off, force-jump up to where he'd fallen from, and continue the battle? Because he knew when to quit.
Though he was the doyen on the Jedi council, and undisputedly one of the most powerful Jedi in the universe at the time, he didn't allow his power to override his common sense. He saw that Sidious had the upper hand, that the remaining Jedi were outnumbered by the bad guys, and that it was time to go into exile. In this instance, quitting actually spared Yoda. At least he walked away from the battle in tact, which is more than can be said for Anakin.
Thank you for joining me.
*hugs and kisses*
