Brief Intro
(The specimens which have I have chosen for the
Forgotten Creatures series can all be found in the
Star Wars Encyclopedia, copyright 1998 by Lucasfilm Ltd. These creatures seem to be lost and/or underappreciated, as I can't find them in the SW databank, nor do I recall seeing them in the films.
I have thus decided to give them a bit of airtime in my blog. If you have glimpsed some of these creatures in the films, or read about them in SW novels, feel free to leave a comment!)
The caterpillar entombs itself for a period of virtual sloth,
And while cocooned it transforms into the Alderaan Furry Moth.
The tiny flightless Agee walks, but the winged ones will soar.
The Angler is a crustacean, which is native to Yavin 4.
The Annoo-dat have lidded eyes, flat noses, and spotted faces.
The Anoat Lizard-Ants' 12 legs let them swarm at rapid paces.
The Anomid has no vocal cords: Can you imagine that?
The Arachnor spins a sticky web: Planet Arzid is where it's at.
I found the most intriguing among the "A" creatures to be the Anomid. Here's what the
SW Encyclopedia has to offer on this species:
"Born galactic tourists, the humanoid Anomids are native to the Yablari system. Anomids are technology wizards and wealthy enough to tour the galaxy even during times of upheaval. They are born without vocal cords, so when they deal with speaking species they wear elaborate vocalizer masks that produce synthesized sounds that serve as a language. With these face-covering masks and the lone, hooded robes they favor, Anomids' features are nearly 100 percent hidden - a perfect disguise that hasn't gone unnoticed by spies and agents."
Absolutely amazing!
Thank you for joining me, ladies and gentlemen! Please stay tuned for the "B's" in the next installment of
The Forgotten Creatures of SW!
Very truly yours,
