Karen Traviss Gives Us More Than One Revelation in the Penultimate Volume of Legacy of the Force
As Revelation opens, Jayna Solo decides to learn techniques from an old adversary of the Solo family, Boba Fett. She feels that only then can she prepare for a final showdown with her brother, Jacen. Meanwhile, Ben Skywalker risks his life to make contact with a former colleague in the Galactic Alliance Guard, Commando Captain Lon Shevu. With Shevu's help, he hopes to prove from forensic evidence that Jacen Solo killed Mara Jade Skywalker. With the help of his sister and his brother-in-law, Luke Skywalker is making plans of his own: plans that involve hindering his nephew and finding a safe haven for the Jedi to hide temporarily while planning for a final assault of their own. While these events are going on, Jacen realizes that "the folks back home" might lose support for the war without a major victory, so he hatches a plan to attack and sieze Fondor and its shipyards. Conquering Fondor won't be easy since it is well protected. Since his actions have alienated Hapes, and the Galactic Alliance fleet is spread thin, he decides to make an offer of alliance to the Imperial Remnant. But, Jacen's apparent capricious actions in recent weeks have alienated some in the Galactic Alliance, and he seems oblivious to the fact that everything he has strived for by taking the path of the Sith could slip away.

Karen Traviss does a great job of juggling these plotlines and (as mentioned from the title of this blog) she does provide various revelations in setting up the final volume, Invincible. Most of the reveleations are given to the characters of the book and were "known" to those reading the series previously. What is new is the reaction of the characters that receive the revelations. And among the revelations is the return of three characters from the Expanded Universe - three characters who, before this volume, hadn't appeared anywhere in the Legacy of the Force story-arc. Her characterizations are also right on target, from the characters from Episodes IV-VI to the characters introduced in Legacy of the Force to the characters we've come to know from other books in the EU. And, even though we know that Invincible will be the final volume, Traviss is still able to surprise us with a cliffhanger. I'm eagerly awaiting the final volume.
Final rating: **** (on a scale of 0-4 stars).

SPOILER WARNING*********Read any ####her at your own risk.

Well for me the title nailed it. But a few things bother me, but will probably be answered in the final volume. Like no mention of the One Sith. But where does the alliance go from here...? He has pissed off a lot of people that would help him. Of course, another character dies, and another replaces. Interesting. Now Tahiri is the Sith apprentice. I wonder what her Sith name will be....hhhhmmmmm.....

I thought that Revelation would mean that he would take control in an Emperor's fashion, and announce he is to the whole galaxy that he is a Sith. He does tell some, but not all. Interesting how my question of why Boba Fett didn't do anything about Jacen so far has been answered....

I must admit, sometimes keeping up with all the Mando's can be a bit confusing....oh well. At least they won't be center stage in the next one. At least i hope because we still have a bit of ground to cover....

Im getting the feeling that while Invincible will be the "last" book in this story arc, that not EVERY plot will be resolved....after all they need more stories for the future...why KILL Jacen/Cadeus when you can keep him around and have him stir up more trouble in a future story line?

I guess thats the main question left at this point: WILL Jacen die? Go into hiding? Be captured ? Be converted back to the Light?

or....will he WIN?

Ep.III set a precedent that in some stories, the Bad Guy wins...at least for the moment.

so who knows what surprises we may get in the next book?

cant wait!

Great blog!

I am also eagerly awaiting the final book. So many questions left to be answered! :)

I also liked Jacen as a villain more after this book oddly enough. He seems more focused and more composed - which makes him appear more dangerous and intimidating than in the previous books.

Caution *****SPOILERS***********
Let me start by saying that i loved the boook. I have loved the previous books. But what gets me is this.Weren't there a group of remaining sith on korriban ? If so why hasn't Jacen sensed them and either tried to learn from them or destroy them.. Granted that viewpoint comes from me having read the Darth Bane combo. Eitherway, I just feel that as far as sith go, Cadeaus seems kinda tame. I'd love to see him grow in strength and alignment with the dark side.. I could forsee several plot twists on the horizon. I don[t ssee tahiri as a viable apprentice.. That is just an opinion. Well nuff said.. Here's to Han And Ba'buir sharing an ale on tantooine..
