Star Wars in 1920
A few days ago I found something curious at a popular online bookshop. Some EU books, such as Shadows of the Empire or The Truce at Bakura were supposedly edited on January 1920. :O

Of course, that's a mistake. What if the Star Wars movies were filmed at that time? I'm glad they were not and we can see them the way Lucas imagined them. Furthermore, one of the many key elements that made them so successful was the right moment when A New Hope was released. The Star Wars movies came just when they were needed.

There is a funny Silent Star Wars clip on YouTube, but playing and going further...

Imagine a Star Wars soundtrack composed by Gershwin.
Imagine Ben Kenobi and Vader dueling swashbuckler style, jumping around, cutting ropes, falling down.
Imagine the StormTroopers working like the Keystone Cops.
Imagine that the main colors on screen were white, black and grey. Umm. You don't need that much imagination. :)

I think it was Cecil B. DeMille who said about films and astonishing the public "A movie has to begin with an earthquake and go upwards" [or something like that]. And Episode IV accomplishes that by far.

Just like anything artistic timing is very important. I know that Lucas was influenced by a lot of older films, but it is a good thing they came out when they did because now they're classics. Although with hollywood doing almost nothing but remakes, I bet someone would have remade them if they were made in the 1920s. Lets just hope that they don't remake them in the future, just because the special effects would be better. *cough King Kong*.

It's an interesting idea. I don't like flilms QUITE that old. The women's (and sometimes the men's) faces are covered in white makeup and everyone's movements seem over the top. However, I will say, that as horror goes, the old movies have an eerieness that the new ones don't seem too. Perhaps it's the idea that we don't think they could get it that good in the 1920s, so, quite possibly this is a REAL vampire? I wonder what a Tusken Raider might have looked like.

Great choice with the poster for this entry ;)

If Star Wars were from the 1920s, it would probably have been more like Star Wars Steampunk.
