Yahoo! News reports: "Looks like Harrison Ford can finally take the fedora out of mothballs."
It's been four years since
Indy IV was officially announced as "in production," and I'm surprised that fan excitement remains high. Four years after the
Star Wars prequels were revealed "in production," Episode I was in theatres, and Episode II had begun pre-production. Talk about an efficient studio system!
The web-article selected a choice comment made by Ford to German magazine,
Fit for Fun, "Steven Spielberg and I now have a script in hand that we both like. I believe that we can start with the filming soon." It seems that the final piece in this puzzle is George Lucas, who is currently working on several pet projects (namely,
Red Tails and Star Wars in 3-D[!]). It's been reported that Steven Spielberg was contemplating taking a year-long break from movie-making, but his publicist, Marvin Levy, is (according to the article) denying it. Spielberg is currently working on
Lincoln, a biopic of that President, and starring (reportedly) Liam Nesson.
By the time
Indy IV begins filming in fall of 2007 (a most likely date considering Lucas' and Spielberg's schedules), Ford will be 64 years-old. As point-of-reference, Sean Connery was 59 when he played Ford's/Indy's father in
The Last Crusade; Ford was 47. Will Ford be too old to portray the swashbuckling archaeologist we've come to know and love? What remains to be said of Indy's adventures? Who knows? As long as Indy battles Nazis, I'll be satisfied.
