... it's time for horror movies! I think June has become the new October for some reason. Perhaps the movie studios are trying to get a jump on the competition. I'm not complaining because it means I get to see three scary flicks that I've been eagerly awaiting much sooner than I originally hoped. I believe both George Romero's Land of the Dead and Robert Zombie's The Devil's Rejects both got bumped up in their schedules which is usually a positive sign that studios are confident in their upcoming releases. And I've heard nothing but rave reviews for Haute Tension (or rather High Tension for it's U.S. release).

The one I'm looking forward to most (sorry George R.) is The Devil's Rejects, Rob's second directorial effort and his sequel to House of 1,000 Corpses. I'm a huge Rob Zombie/White Zombie fan and I really enjoyed his first film. Though it wasn't entirely successful overall and it was very ambitious, experimental, full of old school horror homages and 'inspirato', it was refreshing to see some good hardcore horror in the theatre again after being spoon fed Scream inspired watered down horror in the early to mid 90's. Being a kid growing up in the 70's and 80's had it's advantages in contrast to this politically correct entertainment media world we live in now.
Luckily the late 90's also ushered in a new golden age era of Asian horror which luckily has been finding it's way to the States these past few years.
With typical lame hollywoood horror films in the past decade we got garbage like Urban Legend, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Wishmaster part whatever, etc. The only few good horror films to come out in recent memory were The Ring and The Grudge, and both of those were remakes of great Asian horror films. Anyway, you get the picture.
I actually had the chance to chat with Kane Hodder, stunt coordinator for Rejects and better known to the masses as the man behind the hockey mask, aka Jason in the Friday the 13th films, last October at Motor City Comic Con. He had a lot of really positive things to say about the film and if you want to check it out you can read all about it at my site here...
