My First Ever (Competitive) Light Side Deck
So we're into the official 10th Anniversary of the Star Wars CCG!

As an avid fan of the evolution of card gaming, one of my favorite things to do is to peer back at what decks used to look like before an expansion was released. I especially like to see what I was playing to see how I grew and progressed as a player.

Back in the days of only Premier, my favorite deck was my Light Side deck. Even though I had Darth Vader and Tarkin (the money-combo of the day), the only way I could play with Han and the Falcon was when I was Light Side. In general, unless you had a Luke Skywalker AND Obi-Wan, Light Side didn't particularly have a lot to offer.

Luke himself didn't actually do much, but he was required in order to pull off the numerous "destiny adders" that the Light Side had at its disposal. Gift of the Mentor and Don't Get Cocky were especially popular because of there ability to alter the game in ways other than adding destiny. I had neither, nor did I have other competitive necessaries such as Obi-Wan's saber and Lightsaber Proficiency.

What I did have though was Jedi Presence and Obi-Wan. Combined with other cards, Jedi Presence was capable of keeping me in the game long enough so that my opponent couldn't win by a large cumulative score. My favorite combo was to play I've Got A Bad Feeling About This or Don't Underestimate Our Chances, and then play Jedi Presence. Sense was still a very dominating factor in the game at this time, so pulling off two Interrupts wasn't easy.. especially if they knew a Jedi Presence was coming.

It should also be noted that one of the key Light Side cards was Electrobinoculars, which pretty much allowed the Light Side player to save up lots of Force in order to ensure a good destiny. Traffic Control (and the Dark Side version, Reactor Terminal) also helped immensely in "rigging" a good destiny draw.

Here is what my Light Side deck more or less looked like back in the days of Premier. The funniest thing to note (and maybe the most pathetic) is the presence of the card Leia's Back. You needed Leia to play it, a character I didn't get until after A New Hope was released. I justified it as a place-holder, which is great I suppose except that a deck could only be made up of 60 cards. Essentially I was wasting a spot simply because I had a slight "crush" on the Princess. Hey, what Rebel didn't at one time or another ;) Anyway, one of my best friends didn't let me live that one down for quite some time LOL!
