Post Comic Con Report

Well, the con was fun and our Books on the Horizon panel was well attended. Some attendees even walked away with some good freebies (Making of and Art of Ep. III books). I think you can even hear what Steve Sansweet, Pablo Hidalgo and I said on starwars.com. However, I can't say if it makes good radio.

Essentially, all of our Ep. III DVD tie-in books are done. Yesterday I saw the Wookiee belt buckle replica that's going into the deluxe edition of our Dressing a Galaxy: The Costumes of Star Wars book. It's a re-creation of the movie prop that costume props supervisor Ivo Coveney dug out of his collection (a gift from Rick McCallum) and sent to us at the urging of Trisha Biggar. It looked great. I also saw a mock-up of the fabric sample book, which is fascinating-particularly for you fashion students and costume makers. Palace Press actually sent four people for one week into our Lucasfilm archives hunting down the fabrics for this book-going through huge boxes and bins and thousands of yards of material.

A few weeks ago we rec'd the final manufacturing CD-ROM prototype for John Knoll's Creating the Worlds of Star Wars book. It contains many of the images seen on starwars.com, plus lots more-including a few mini-videos that have never been seen before. It's definitely not just an arbitrary add-on to the book-it's an event in and of itself (with a nice interface, too).

Last but not least, among the other books, one should get some commentary: I'm just reading the galleys of The Last of the Jedi #3: Underworld. This one is without Obi-Wan Kenobi, concentrating more on Ferus and Trever. However there will be some familiar faces popping up and some familiar places-along with some new harrowing situations. We're just beginning a story arc that should give fans some fun. Let's just say the Sith are very busy villains.

On a non-Star Wars note, I was happy at the con to find some golden age comics that were not unbelievably expensive. An affordable Marvel Mystery Comics #92! But I don't want to bore you guys with that info.

Back to Star Wars. Now we're gearing up for...I'm not allowed to say. But it'll be good and interesting.

As usual, any questions, just let me know.

Kindest regards,
Jonathan W. Rinzler
