A Sith in the Senate?!?
What if I told you that the Republic was under the control of the Dark Lord of the Sith?

Dooku posed this question to Obi-Wan while he was his guest on Geonosis. Obi-Wan refused to believe what was said, because of his arrogance, which was widespread amongst most Jedi during that time. At the end of AOTC, the Jedi concede that, while Dooku may be trying to throw them off of his master's trail by putting them right on his doorstep, the Senate does warrant a closer look from this point forward.

Anakin finally discovers the horrible truth that not only was Dooku right, but the Sith Lord had infiltrated the highest seat in the government. The Jedi order had been defending the corpse of a government that had died long before the Clone Wars even broke out. He informs Mace of this news, and then the Jedi Master decides that, instead of forcing Palpatine to surrender his emergency powers back to the Senate, he decided that the Sith Lord was to be arrested and removed from office, and if that failed, to assassinate him.

Perhaps the smarter thing to do would have been to ask for a special session of Congress and place him under arrest during the processions of that session? I believe that if they would have accused him of being a Sith Lord, the Senate would have changed its view completely on Palpatine and his views, policies, etc..... I can imagine that if the Senate knew what we knew, they would have asked for his removal by the Jedi long ago.
