Because of the HBO package we have, I have been able to watch ANH (which incidentally was listed as "Star Wars" in the listings, not "A New Hope") twice today--once for the East and once for the West. And of course, I HAVE to watch it every time it's on!

Anyway, the second time I watched today, I was taken back to that scene that I actually wrote my very first blog about...the scene where Luke was in Ben's hut and they watched Leia's recording, etc.

When Luke asked Ben how his father died, I noticed the expression on Alec Guinness's face this time. He hesitated before answering, as if he actually knew the back story and how his character had struck Anakin down all those years before. You could actually feel Ben's angst for knowing what he had done to Luke's father, and what had become of him.

I don't think they could have played that scene any better if they had known all the back story. That scene holds a lot of inconsistencies, but like everyone else, I can ignore that for the bigger picture.

The next time you watch ANH, watch that scene carefully. You'll see what I'm talking about.
