Thanks for Proving me Right!
This is a follow-up blog to my earlier rant about the irrelevance of awards shows. I watched the nominations this morning, and felt extremely vindicated in my opinion.

Hollywood people apparently think that unless an actor is gay, crippled, oppressed, downtrodden or insane - or their character is somehow affected by someone who is - your acting is poor. Extra points if the movie has a sad ending that reveals how humanity, as a whole, sucks. This is a pretty clear indication of the fact that the majority of those in Hollywood are, in fact, snobs.

Anyone care to toss out that they're surprised Ian McDiarmid was completely overlooked for the Oscars? I wasn't.

Now, I do not take away anything from someone's performance because they were nominated. That's great for them. On some level, they probably deserve it. But the Oscars have proven, once again, that they are completely out of touch with what makes the audiences - you know, the whole reason that the movie business even exists - happy.

I mean, my God - I realized again today that there is not even a comedy category. Animation, yes. Comedy, no.

This type of stuff only upsets me because it reveals the agenda-driven bitterness that dominates "showbusiness". If you like it, you should be allowed to like it, without someone somewhere insinuating that you're not as cultured/not as enlightened/not as knowledgeable as they are. So far as I am concerned, a Peanut Butter and Mayonnaise sandwich is delicious. Reading that sentence, you think I am insane (as do I, but it's true that they are delicious).

But as far as Jiffy and Miracle Whip are concerned, they won something more important than an award: my money. So let the awards shows heap tons of awards on depressing movies that make us all feel bad about what a terrible bunch of jerks we are. Keep voting with your wallet, folks, and forget the snobs.
