Top Ten Star Wars Mysteries Warranting Further Explanation
The Star Wars Universe is ever-expanding, and always presenting us with new stories. However, as it has grown, the Expanded Universe has turned up a number of mysteries. Some of these are present only in the EU; others are created by the movies, but the growth of the EU has made the answers to the questions they ask feel more absent. Whether they are holes that need to be filled in or simply the outer reaches of the Expanded Universe that the EU seems sure to tackle eventually, this is my list of untold stories I want to hear.

The Top Ten Star Wars Mysteries Warranting Further Explanation

10. Neva Kee--This little-known podracer from Episode I barely makes a blip on most fans' radar. However, there's a juicy nugget in his databank entry that begs for further explanation: "Kee left the Boonta Eve race in the second lap, wandering off course in the Hutt Flats. He was never seen again." There's got to be a story here. Why would the little guy just disappear? Was it intentional? Though it certainly seems like a small question in the greater scheme of Star Wars, it's one that nags at me. Whatever happened to Neva Kee?

9. The Fate of Asajj Ventress-- The Count Dooku's dark acolyte caused all sorts of trouble for our heroes during the Clone Wars. Naturally, a villain of this type deserves a climactic resolution to her story. And she got one... but that resolution ended with her on a med ship, mind-tricking the pilots into taking her as far away from the Clone Wars, Dooku, and the Jedi as possible. Did she perish on this journey? Did she settle down somewhere and erase her former past? Did she run into some sort of threat? A villain with as central a role as Asajj Ventress had deserves a story arc with a little more closure.

8. One Thousand Years of Sith-- The history of the Sith is a long and mysterious one... particularly from the Ruusan Campaign to The Phantom Menace. As the Jedi's greatest enemies, every fan would love to know as much as possible about the history of this lethal order. But from Darth Zannah to Darth Plagueis, a millenium passes, and the only names that come up are Darth Millennial, Darth Cognus, and Darth Vectivus. What were the Sith up to? And what sorts of Sith reigned in this era of secrecy? As the definitive bad guys, the Sith are a huge part of the Star Wars story.

7. Halagad Ventor and the survivors of Order 66-- We know that Darth Vader tortured out of Halagad Ventor the location of a secret Jedi base, housing what Ventor believed to be all the survivors of Order 66. But who were these survivors? And where was this base? Is it connected at all to the Jedi base Ferus Olin is creating in the Last of the Jedi books? And what about K'Kruhk--now that he's appeared in the Legacy comics, what was he up to for 140 years? This is luckily an area where we are likely to get answers in the coming years, particularly with the Live Action TV Series. But let's hope that besides just exploring the Dark Times, future Star Wars EU answers questions about the Jedi Purge that older EU sources raised.

6. The Contents and Origins of the Prophecy of the Chosen One-- For playing such a crucial piece in the Prequel Trilogy and the Star Wars Saga overall, it's surprising how little we actually know about the Prophecy of the Chosen One (see here). So where did this prophecy come from? And what does it actually say? Does it do more than just prophesy the coming of a chosen one? And what are the implications of the arrival of the Chosen One? Though these are questions that might never be answered, they are quite central to Anakin's story and the Star Wars Saga as seen in the movies.

5. Yoda's Story-- Not Yoda Stories, but Yoda's story. What's this guy's background? With 900 years to work with, there's a lot left to explore. We've got the pseudo-canonical origin story of Yoda seen in Star Wars Galaxy #9, but even a confirmation or denial of this would be great. And, of course, some fleshing out of the story would also be appreciated. Yoda's also got the Chu'unthor storyline when he's 700, but that leaves plenty of time before and even after for some stories about the diminutive Jedi Master. And while we're at it, some information regarding his species and/or homeworld would be quite interesting, I'm sure. Yes, we'll probably never get that much of an origin story on our little green friend, but nevertheless, some more of Yoda's history would be welcome.

4. Jedi Service Corps-- This is where they send all the Younglings who aren't quite good enough to be Padawans. And, while we might or might not have gotten a story on them last year (discussed here), the story of an almost-Jedi has-been at the age of thirteen would be quite riveting. While this seems to be an area of Star Wars EU pushed to the side, stories exploring this topic could be both thought-provoking and add quite a bit to the fabric of the Star Wars universe.

3. D'harhan-- This bounty hunter originally reared his ugly head-like appendage in The Bounty Hunter Wars Trilogy, but more recently made a reappearance in Jude Watson's Last of the Jedi series. What's up with this guy? He's a humanoid being whose head has been replaced by a cannon, and indications are that he's from the Clone Wars-era and one among others. Oh, and he's also kind of friends with Boba Fett. What is he? Some sort of weird Republic or Separatist experiment in advanced weaponry and/or bigger-and-better troops? His recent reappearance shows that he hasn't dropped off the map entirely. Hopefully a further explanation is forthcoming.

2. Darth Plagueis-- Ever since his mention in Revenge of the Sith, fans have been hungry for information on Darth Sidious's master. The announcement and then cancellation of the Darth Plagueis novel did nothing to satisfy this hunger. The guy who trained Palpatine's gotta be bad news--plus, rumor has it has he has the power to stop people from dying. Plus, did this guy have a hand in Anakin's creation? Eventually, we've got to hear more about this guy. He's too intriguing not to.

1. The Whills-- Who are these guys? All we really know is that a Shaman of the Whills taught Qui-Gon the secret to surviving death. We also know they've been with the Star Wars story since its beginning (per the first-ever released Star Wars product, the original novelization). There are also indications that they're some sort of record-keepers--we know they keep a journal. But beyond that, we know amazingly little. We don't even know what their secret for surviving death is--or how Anakin was able to tap into it. Are they a species or an organization? Are they physical beings, or have they all transcended death? Hopefully further information will be forthcoming, but it's likely to come in bits and pieces.
