Debo aclarar que no soy un gran coleccionista de comics, pero me encantan los Verpine, esa raza insectoide originaria de los Asteroides Roche, responsables del diseño de esa otra nave que me gusta tanto, el B-Wing.

Los Verpine aparecieron por primera vez en el suplemento de juego de rol Strike Force: Shantipole, de West End Games. En dicho suplemento, los personajes debían ayudar a Ackbar (en ese entonces con rango de Comandante) a entregar los prototipos de los B-Wing a la Alianza Rebelde.

Desde entonces me llamaron la atención por sus características espectaculares como técnicos y su gusto innato por la modificación extrema de las cosas (algo que me encanta es que cada que compro un aparato nuevo o un software nuevo, me pongo a investigar todo lo que hace y procedo a cambiarle la configuración).

Pero bueno, regresando al tema, el primer y único Verpine del que tengo noticia que haya aparecido en un comic es uno de los secuaces de Niles Ferrier, ladrón de naves estelares. Aparece en el primer número de la adaptación a comic de la novela de Timothy Zahn El Resurgir de la Fuerza Oscura (Dark Force Rising).

Afortunadamente y gracias a Sergio Sánchez, me pude enterar de que pronto habrá otro Verpine en un comic... y no un Verpine cualquiera sino ¡un Jedi!

Será parte del comic Republic #78, el cuál saldrá en agosto del 2005. Pueden ver el dibujo a lápiz de Doug Wheatley (el responsable de la adaptación a comic de Episodio III) en una entrevista que le hicieron en Rebelscum.

No puedo esperar a que salga el comic, para verlo en todo color y ver a los demas Jedi que aparecerán en ese número.

ENGLISH VERSION

I must confess I'm not a big comic collector, but I do love Verpine, that insectoid species from the Roche Asteroid Field, which is responsible for the design of that other ship I like that much, the B-Wing.

The Verpine species appeared for the first time in the West End Games' roleplaying module Strike Force: Shantipole. In said module, the characters had to help Ackbar (who was Commander at the time) to safely deliver the B-Wing prototypes to the Rebel Alliance.

I became fascinated because of the spectacular Verpine abilities as technicians and their innate passion for extreme modifications (something I love is tinkering with the configuration of every single gadget and sofware I buy).

Well, back to the subject, the first and only Verpine I'm aware appeared on a comic is a henchmen of Niles Ferrier, starship thief. He is shown in the first number of the comic adaptation of Timothy Zahn's novel Dark Force Rising.

Fortunately and thanks to Sergio Sánchez, I got word that a new Verpine will be featured in a comic... and even better, not merely a regular Verpine but a Verpine Jedi!

It will be featured in Republic #78, to be released on August, 2005. You can see the pencil drawing by Doug Wheatley (the man responsible for the comic adaptation of Episode III) at an interview hosted by Rebelscum.

I simply can't wait for the comic to be released, I want to see the Verpine in full color. Besides, watching the other Jedi will be great!
