Here's where the fun begins.
Time to talk all things Revenge, prior to me seeing the movie on Thursday - because I'm sure I won't be able to talk about it for some time afterwards, having to go and lie down for a bit to prevent spontaneous combustion. Anyway.
Revenge of the Sith. This is it, isn't it? The Chosen One itself; the one we've all been waiting for. And yes, I already know the story: I've read the mind-bogglingly awesome Stover novel, I've read the Illustrated Screenplay, I've completed the video-game (both endings) and I've read countless summaries, synopsis and reviews. And yes, I still expect to be surprised, and of course, highly entertained come Thursday, May 19th, 5:20 pm.
It was the same with Attack of the Clones - which I loved, by the way - and I'm sure Revenge will be no different. I'd read the novel and screenplay, and had been following the spoiler game for three years, and still there were many things in the movie that surprised me - Jango's "I'm just a simple man" line was particuarly gratifying to hear, as it had been bandied about in spoiler forums for eons, and I'd almost forgotten about it come May 16th. Also, the applause Kung-Fu-Yoda received was amazing.
On the subject of applause, I have no doubt the audience will go even more beserk for Revenge. In fact, I'm rather embarrased to be going with my uncle to see it; not being part of the Star Wars 'thing', I don't know what he'll make of me crying throughout the movie - for I'm sure I will.
Revenge of the Sith is not just the movie that completes the circle - the saga - but it's the end of an era. No more will we wait in anticipation, salivating over every little spoiler and fuzzy photo leaked from the Ranch. No more will we wait for months, years, for two hours of pure bliss. Sure, there'll be TV series a-go-go, but no....more....movies. Bittersweet isn't the word.
So, Judgement Day draws closer, and my geek-o-meter has just burst. I'm currently listening to the RotS soundtrack - 15. End Title and A New Hope - with a half-box of Star Wars Pringles (Obi-Wan-flavoured, naturally) and my faithful pile of RotS books, novels and guides but an arm's length away. Star Wars isn't just a movie. It's a state of mind.
Oy moy, I must have patience. And I know I've been rambling, but that's just how I feel - or, rather, I don't know how to feel. This is it.
The Beginning of the End.
May the Force be with us.
