Star Wars - Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith (Xbox)
Hopefully the first of many reviews.

I'm a Star Wars game buff. Name a game. Chances are I've played it. Even greater chances are that I've played it to completion 100%. Twice. There are very few games that I haven't played. Most of those go back to before I was born. Therefore I consider myself pretty knowledgable in what makes a good game, and what doesn't. What will appeal to you, and what won't. What is worth a buy, worth a rent and worth burning.

Star Wars - Episode 3 - Revenge of the Sith

Firstly, this review is going to be completely spoiler free. With only 2 days to go, I don't want to wreck the film for those who don't know anything. In fact, I'd actually just recommend not reading this, just to make sure. Come back in two days.

Gone yet?

Go on, get out of here!

Okay, that's that.

Anywho, as you probably guessed, Revenge of the Sith (RotS) is the game adaptation of the film. It concentrates on key elements of the film and expands on some of the lesser explored areas of the film. You control Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi throughout the course of the game, though you have no choice of who you control and when. Rather, the game forces this choice upon you, a choice I'm not too fond of but something we'll get into later. The game takes you through their stories, their paths as they split through the events of the film, and eventually come together again for possibly the most epic lightsaber duel a game has ever seen.

Graphically, the game is sound. The characters look great and realistic as do the enemies which range from Battle Droids to Battle Droids to Clones to Spiders. Granted there's not a huge variety in the enemy, but you'll have to contend with Electric Droids, Fire Droids, Fire Clones, Rocket Clones and so on and so forth. Basically, your stand video game enemy deviation. The lightsabers look great, and the particle effects from blasters are decent. Environments are large, though some have a tendency to be a tad filled with invisible walls. Also, they're not really that interactive bar a few explosive crates.

It goes without saying for a Star Wars game that the music is perfect. It always is. The only disappointment is the lack of Episode 3 music as it wasn't complete in time, but that's only a minor gripe. I've also heard complaints about the voice acting but personally, I didn't find it as offensive as it was made out to be.

Gameplay is much like the Lord of the Rings game. Hack. Slash. Basic puzzle. Hack. Some more Slash. Rinse. Repeat. The only major addition is a number of one on one duels. The game is fun, without being difficult, but again, this causes a problem later on.

Now, we'll get into the bad. The game is way too short. I had it complete in about 5 hours. On hard mode. The only tricky part was the first duel and that was more down to not being used to the controls more than anything. You'll breeze your way through the game without any major difficulty. The other gripes I have are as follows

1. The lack of a proper co-op. - Unforgivable. The game could have been so much better with it. As it is, you can unlock 4 or 5 levels, but there are just you and a friend fighting wave after wave of droids or clones. Not that much fun.

2. Not being able to choose characters - In Return of the King, once you finished a level, you could go back and play it with any character. Not so here. You can't even choose if you want to be Anakin or Obi-Wan on a level where both are together. There are 8 playable characters, and the ability not to be able to choose any, bar in versus mode, is a major oversight on the developers part.

Now, we'll move onto the things I liked.

1. It's fun - The game is fun. Though it's short, I enjoyed myself immensely throughout.

2. Versus Mode - There's a great versus mode. Play as Obi-Wan (Old and New), Anakin, Darth Vader, Nick Gillard, Mace Windu, Dooku and Grievious. Hopefully, a more fleshed out beat 'em up will become available based on the positive response to this. It's been too long since Masters of Teras Kasi.

Overall, this is a fun game, but is it worth $50/50euro? In short, no. It's worth a one week rental, or at the most $25. Unless you're an absolute die hard fan, go for Lego Star Wars instead (review coming soon).

Overall Score: ]:) ]:) ]:) (out of a possible 5)
