Tales of the Jedi...my thoughts so far
Ring! Ring! I pause my KOTOR game, and run to the door. I see the UPS lady standing there. It's here :D ! I quickly sign for the package, shut the door, and tear open the box...Volume 1 of the Tales of the Jedi Omnibus!!!

Just in case you need some filling in on what this particular Omnibus is about, it's a big collection of comics, covering the Great Hyperspace War, the Beast Wars of Onderon, and the story of Nomi Sunrider's joining the Jedi.

I tear off the celephane wrapper, and turn to a random page. Then I shut the book and resume fighting rakghouls in the Tarisian undercity :O !!! If you couldn't tell, I wasn't overly impressed when I opened the book (otherwise I wouldn't have closed it to resume playing KOTOR for my third or fourth time)

I'm having trouble making a link to the image, but you can look up Gav or Jori Daragon on Wookieepedia, and you'll see the two main characters. They're not overly cool (in my opinion). They look more like Greek Gods than hyperspace explorers, and I have to deal with them for the next 200 pages.

I begin reading, and I'm slightly dissapointed.
Despite the fact that the two main characters (Gav and Jori Daragon) are the main protagonists, they have very few exciting scenes (the only part I remember where they actually got some decent action was when they were fighting against a bunch of thugs. The scene was riddled with some not so funny humor).

So, here's gist the first and second story arcs...
Gav and Jori Daragon are two Hyperspace exploring siblings who are quite desperate to discover a new hyperspace route. When they end up being pursued by some angry lizard's henchmen, they decide to punch in random hyperspace coordinates. They find that they are in orbit above Korriban, the long forgotten Sith graveworld. They arrive in the middle of a duel fought between the Sith Lords Naga Sadow and Ludo Kressh, who both want to assume the title of Dark Lord now that the Dark Lord Marka Ragnos is dead. Neither Kressh or Sadow succeed in claiming Dark Lordship, because they were interrupted by the spirit of Marka Ragnos.

Gav and Jori are discovered by the Sith, and taken captive...here's where I actually start enjoying the story...

Some cool characters are introduced as the Sith Council begins to debate over what to do with the Daragons...Simus is especially cool :) .

After debating for a while, two different groups form. One group, (led by Ludo Kressh) wants to execute the Daragons immediately, thinking that they are Republic spies who want to destroy the Sith Empire. The other (led by Sadow, the main antagonist) wants to let them go on their ship, and track them to the Republic, which Sadow believes the Sith Empire should conquer.

Eventually, Naga decides to put his plan into action, despite opposition from Kressh & Co.

He lets Jori escape, and puts a homing beacon on her ship. He keeps her brother Gav to train as his apprentice.

Ludo eventually finds out what Naga did, gets mad, and starts fighting him and his followers. Sadow manages to defeat Kressh and his buddies (including Horak Mul, another cool character :^O )

So, Naga wages war against the Republic and the Jedi (my favorite being Odan Urr, who goes on to rewrite the Jedi Code) but eventually loses, so he hides on Yavin IV...

So, it turns out that I learned to overlook the uncool ancient SW fashion, and enjoy the reading.

I read the Beast Wars of Onderon story arc too, and I can't say I was disapointed.

Now I'm looking to buy the TOTJ Omnibus (Vol. 2). Just goes to show that you can get much more out of everything in life if you give it a chance :D

I'd reccommend the TOTJ Omnibus to anyone who finds early SW history mildly interesting. It's a great value for only $15. If you could care less about the Great Hyperspace War and early Sith Lords, you probably wouldn't enjoy it.

I probably won't be writing many other blogs like this. I just wanted to share my thoughts.

If anyone has read TOTJ before, tell me what you thought of it!

Thanks for reading!!! As always, feel free to comment. MTFBWY
God Bless!!! :)
