Thrawn: Evil Genius, or Just Genius?
Grand Admiral Thrawn, of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Fleet. A pretty awesome character.

One that I've always thought as an evil mastermind. Mastermind, sure, but now, evil, I'm not so sure.

I'm in the middle of Outbound Flight, by Timothy Zahn, and Thrawn is being portrayed as good guy, which totally threw me for a loop. Car'das and Maris actually like him, and enjoy being in his company. So now I have to come to terms with (again) where that hazy line is between good and evil. In the Thrawn trilogy, there was no doubt, there was a big sign over his head that said 'BAD GUY'.

But here we see he is actually upset over the destruction of Outbound Flight. But...It didn't really bother him shooting at those living shields the Vagaari were using.

Basically, I just don't get the guy. He's kinda like Boba Fett, you can see him as a hero or a villian, it depends on side of the coin you want to look at.

Evil is defined as wrong, wicked, harmful, injurious. Hero is defined as any sort of man admired for courage, nobility, ect. Thrawn did indeed have these heroic qualities...but also, he did do alot of evil things...

I found a Thrawn Fan Club thread in the BCAT forum, that had other people's opinion's on him as well.

And while I still can't decide whether he was evil, heroic, or maybe heroic-ly evil, :p I still am very intrigued by him.
