 | Blogging What Matters |
When we were first contemplating establishing blogs on starwars.com, I had already been blogging for several years on my own site and on various blog sites. I was a full-fledged blogging addict. So i figured the fans here would love to use these blogs as a place to pontficate deeper meanings in Star Wars mythos, or recall their first Star Wars memory of Halloween costumes and special birthday presents. I couldn't wait to read our fans reviews of our films, comics, books, toys and games.
And for the most part, that is exactly what happened here. Fans blogged about every Star Wars topic under the sun -- make that 2 suns! And it's been a blast to read everyone's stories about why Star Wars will always be cool to them. And it's also interesting to read about other passions people here have whether it's other sci-fi/fantasy/superhero franchises, or even the Wolrd Cup! And the more you write, and better, you may find yourself featured as the Blog of the Day, or interviewed on starwars.com as a Profiled Blogger or even in the Best of Hyperspace section of the Star Wars Insider magazine!
But I'm sad to say, there's also a few bad apples in these parts who have been using their blogs to attack other bloggers, and in some cases other VIP bloggers. And this is going to end today.
We don't allow anyone to abuse their blogs by picking fights or personally attacking other bloggers. In fact it's a rule and we expect everyone here to follow it. This means you can't attack folks in a blog whether it's a normal entry or under the guise of some bizarre form of fan fiction/play (which is also not allowed here anyway).
So I wanted to remind folks here that we didn't create this blog feature so you could make others feel bad. It's here so you can blog about what you care about (and quite frankly what the rest of us care about) -- your Star Wars fandom -- not your beefs with other users, VIPs or mods. That also means we don't stand for folks who invade the comments area of people's blogs and pick fights either.
As our lovely VIP Karen Traviss said recently said in her blog entry Housekeeping: "See, you have to think of this blog as my living room. In fact, all TOS blogs are someone's personal space. They're not exactly private, but if someone has left their front door open as an invitation to join them for a beer, the least you can do is behave the way they ask you to in their home."
And on more point Traviss makes that I think you ALL need to remember: "No brawling. I mean that. Start a fight , break any of my best china, diss anyone who's not here to defend themselves - especially other authors, SW or not, because that's staggeringly bad manners in a writer's blog - and you're out."
If you're angry at someone commenting on your blog, blacklist them and delete their comments. If you don't like someone's blog, don't read it. If you really want to complain about someone's blog then go to Blog Feedback here.
DO NOT USE YOUR BLOG TO ATTACK OTHER BLOGGERS OR YOU WILL BE BANNED. (That goes for posting abusive comments in someone else's blog too.)
Got it?
Good.
Now let's get back to blogging about things that really matter -- like if Han shot first, if Ewoks would have really eatten their captives, and if R2-D2 can actually beatmix.

RETURN OF DARK MOOSE was not modsmacking, and was meant to be a funny comedy/parrody on the different PLBers and Mods. I just decided to pit the MODs and the PLB against each other for fun! The Mooster himself liked it, if I recall. He didn't believe it was modsmacking!
Am I right, Moose?

Ya know, I hate that this had to be posted, but it does lead to the following question:
if Ewoks would have really eatten their captives, and if R2-D2 can actually beatmix.
What exactly do you think about in your spare time? These two questions are vaguely disturbing to me....
.....maybe that's 'cause the visual of either actually HAPPENING are equally disturbing...

Really? I think those are awesome things to blog about. In fact I may have to blog about all the DJs I know who are convinced R2 could have been an amazing club DJ. As fars as the man-eating Ewoks... I may have to do a bit more research on that....

See, now you've done it again....here's the mental picture I have....
Dark club, bass line thumping, flashing laser lights, the whole works. On stage, a DJ has a turn table to the left, one to the right, and his hand in the middle, "scratching" R2's dome back and forth, producing whistles and toots once only heard in starfighter combat....
Sorry, I'm not trying to make light of the topic in any way....I think I'm mostly just sleep-deprived...

Bravo 225:
Your "funny comedy/parrody" plays as you call it are fan fiction and are not allowed on starwars.com in any form unless you happen to be a licensed VIP author here. So please stop posting them here on blogs.starwars.com.
And pitting "the MODs and the PLB against each other for fun! " not such a great idea considering this seems to be where most of the blog attack is going on. So please knock it off.
thanks

I think there has been some confusion among bloggers as to what exactly constitutes "fan fction."
Perhaps a clarification of the rules is in order?
For instance: Obviously a story written about Han Solo smuggling goods for Jabba back before the days of ANH is a "Fan Fiction" story that is against the rules.
But would a humorous story involving some REAL people be "fiction" or simply "parody?"
I dont make the rules, and frankly i dont write fiction either, but just a suggestion that perhaps the rules need to be CLEAR as to what exactly is concidered "Fan Fiction."

I can't speak for any mods or anyone official or, really, anyone but me (and that's iffy sometimes) but here's a good guideline...
If you write something and you think "Hmmm.....is this going to be considered fan fiction by someone else?" or "I wonder if this might violate a rule of some kind?" the best idea is to post it somewhere else and link to it...
....and now that I've said that, I think I DO recall seeing something similar in one of the BLog Rule forums.....

See, bonniegrrl....I'm not always fun....
Just like Kell Tainer said (kinda) "I don't always have to blow up everything I see......I just like to...."
And that was probably the mother of all misquotes, but the point remains...

Just to clarify, putting up occasional links to my site (where, for the most part, we have fan fiction and interviews) is ok, isn't it?
All good points made there Bonnie, it's a bit sad when this whole arguing between each opther thing gets taken too far. I sometimes think people don't realise how lucky they are to have a community like this to speak on.
I only blog when I have something to say (mine are all about sp[ecific subjects) - must say, I love the carniverous Ewok concept. They eat meat - of COURSE they were going to eat Han. It's like the killer Bunny Rabbit in Monty Python and the Holy Grail ("Sharp, with POINTY TEETH!")

To re-focus on the rules about Creative Submissions, and therefore inclusively Fan Fiction, here's this:
No Fan Fiction in Blogs
And this:
A Quick Note on Fan Fic and Blogs
We've always been lenient about links to fan fic, as long as its not posted directly here. If we've (the mods) been too lenient on other types of fan fic, even humorous skits, we aim to make the policy more clear now - no fan fic - the only folks that can get away with it are VIP's already under the LFL umbrella. So no original stories, no plays, etc.
Thanks,

Yup POSTING LINKS is fine to fan fic and fan art -- that's our policy on the forums too. However, if any of it is abusive to other users in nature, it will still be blocked. The people this is geared towards know EXACTLY who they are. Unfortunately, they ruined it for the legit fans who just want to have fun. So you have them to thank for this.
But yes linking to your fun fan fic, plays and such are fine. And we're exempting the Star Wars Joke of the Day folks, as well as the VIPs.

Hmmm, another VIP blog recently called this sort of thing SPAM... as in anything not directly related to Star Warsis not allowed...
So which is it? Rules are fine, but this is confusing....

Read the entry - its talking about what that VIP finds acceptable in their own blog for comments. Nothing to do with Terms of Use, just what they'll throw out, and, if done repeatedly, will be forced to blacklist. Each blog is a personal journal space, and comments are both subject to site rules, and personal guidelines given they do not conflict with the overall terms of use.
So which is it? Rules are fine, but this is confusing....
Actually, no. It's not. Follow the Terms of Use, and abide by people's requests when in their blog. Common rules, common courtesy.

Common rules, common courtesy.
And COMMON SENSE.
Seriously folks, this isn't brain surgery.
It's the Golden Rule at work Treat others as YOU would like to be treated. I seriously doubt you all would want someone to mock you openly in their blog.
Want to write a play or fiction about an actual Star Wars character instead of a mod, or a VIP author, or another blogger you're mad at? Then go ahead and LINK to it instead of writing it in your blog. But if we see any blogs that are written as or linking to a personal attack, you and your blog will be banned. So use your head before you start typing away. If you want to be a jerk, there's plenty of other blog spaces on the web for you to check out. But this isn't one of them.

Wampa_Jedi you're too funny....
Ok, I have bonniegrrl hooked, now I just have to figure out how to put it away to secure my "BLog of the Day!" spot...
As I've just been caught up in the mess on some (not-going-to-name) sites, I appreciate all the steps taken to keep this house in order (as KT might have put it). Good discussion, civil debate, and being able to go out for drinks afterwards is what this country was built on, not this crud that's going on now....
.......and that's just in the Senate....

Actually, Bonniegrrl, unless you guys are accustomed to making rules outside the User Guidlines, I suggest you take that back...
A parody on people is not fanfiction. Fanfiction is, and I quote -
