For those who'd like to submit for our weekly photo caption series, I posted these tips some time ago on the message boards and thought I'd repost here for anyone who may be interested --
1. Shorter is better -- we literally have hundreds of submissions to sort through every week, so if a caption can quickly get to the point, it's more likely to make the short list. You'll notice the best short submissions get chosen for the title.
2. Lines from the films that can be spun in a clever way to apply to an image are always fun -- they preserve the "in universe" spirit of the feature. This is just an idea -- certainly not criteria.
3. Captions that assign different lines of dialog to the multiple "characters" in an image are often lengthy and long on delivery -- "Faster, more intense" is a good rule of thumb.
4. Be creative -- often, the first line that pops into your head has probably also popped into a dozen other heads.
5. [This tip used to suggest getting your submissions in early since the first ones were freshest to our eyes. However, we'll sometimes draw from the top of the stack and work our way down from time to time, so as long as you get a submission in by Monday morning (for a Tues posting), you're good.
6. Have fun! That's the whole point, isn't it?
