Star Wars: Clone Wars TV Series - August 8, 2008?

In the Hasbro Fall 2007 Analyst Event earlier today, someone from Hasbro said that the new TV show, Star Wars: Clone Wars - The Animated Series would be premiering in theaters August 8, 2008 and on TV a few weeks later!

Lucasfilm's response:
"I'd like to clarify Hasbro comments this AM about the Clone Wars TV series. We see it as a breakthrough animated television series and are exploring a number of innovative ways to introduce it to the public. No decisions regarding release strategy have been made yet. [A theatrical release is] one of the many things being discussed but we have no decisions yet. For us it's all about finding a creative way to launch a creative TV series."

Personally, I think this is so cool! I'm not going to count on it, but many companies will say "we have no plans for ___ at this time" until shortly before they actually want to announce it. Also, more Star Wars in theaters? That would be so awesome!

date Posted: Nov 15, 2007 2:54 PM I always imagined the pilot to any future Star Wars television endeavor doing a special limited release in theaters first. If this idea is followed through with, I would not be surprised. It would be no different than the turn out for a Star Wars feature length film.

Sweet. Thanks for the news. Even though it's not confirmed, I'll bet LFL seriously considers doing this. It looks to be an excellent and innovative move to premiere the series. They'll be sure to be a box-office hit, and they would be doing something no one has really done before - launching a TV series with a theatrical release. I mean why not? GL and LFL have always been revolutionary in their endeavors. It would reinvigorate theater viewing and TV all in one.
