 | Hands Up #7 |
When reading comments on my previos blog I noticed something, One comment stood out, there was one comment I did not have an answer for. This comment was posted by Japanese Fett, he wrote: Is he a vegetarian? (Yoda)
I asked my self "Could he be a vegetarian" the only meal we see him prepare through out the saga is almost as green as he is. It is certainly possible that he is a Vegetarian, but I don't know.
So today's Question is, What do You think was Yoda a Vegetarian or not
All comments and thoughts are welcome and

PS A few weeks back I wrote the Blog Hands Up #4 in it I mentioned Pictures of me and Kenny Baker, I can finally show them to you. Here is a link to

Nice blog. I have my own answer.
*Raises hand*
I think he was partly a vegetarian. His teeth are humanoid, but do not contain the hooks meateaters have. So, based on his teeth, I would say he is a vegetarian. But because he is almost 900 years old, he might have stopped eating on the way. At that age, I would be happy to still have teeth.
May the force be with You too.

the positioning of his eyes and ears would indicate that his species has predatorial background. I would assume that his species are naturally either carnivores or omnivores. Of course, any sentient creature has the ability to choose what they will or will not eat. I like to think that yoda is a vegitarian. The idea of a little green monster sneaking into my room at night to devour me freiks me out. I would assume that his species is naturally nocternal since they appear to relie heavily on their hearing.

Of course, the eyes are not neccesarily an indication of a predatory creature. It can also be an indication of a climber. Creatures need bi-secting vision in order to make 3-dementional judgements of distance, which is used for climbers and jumpers. Based solely on his appearance, I am going to speculate that yoda evolved from a species of either cave or tree dwelling creatures that lived on a mixture of small animals and foliage.

I have heard a theory that one of the reasons that fear of snakes and fear of spiders are far more common in humans (than fear of other animals) is because they were the two most dangerous adversaries to our tree-dwelling ancestors for 1000s of generations.
(don't know what that has to do with yoda, but oh well.)

Very interesting comments Dark-Jedi25. You're right, the position of the eyes indicates he is a hunter, focused on his prey. But there is one thing I'd like to at. I just thought of it. His skin is green. That might indicate he was camouflaged in the regions his species was from. It could make him a good hunter, but also a most wanted prey. Based on all theories until now, I'd say his species is omnivore, like you said. His teeth aren't developed like teeth of real hunters, maybe because he's old, or maybe because his diet is omnivorous. I must say, the teeth are very strong, so it's likely his species uses them a lot.

I'm not going to even take a guess on this one. We rarely see anybody eat in the GFFA, so it's hard to figure these things out. We don't see anybody walk into a 'fresher station either, but I'm not going to go there! ANH deleted scene:
Chewie: "Grrrrllll! Argugh!"
Han: "I thought I told you to go BEFORE we hid in these compartments!"
Loved your pics with Kenny Baker, though! How awesome!!!

Very interesting comments Dark-Jedi25. Very interesting indeed.
Hmmmm...That thingy that Yoda steals from Luke when they first meet in ESB looks strikingly like a hot dog to me... Because he dislikes the "Hotdog" (witch is meat), he could be a vegetarian.
His skin is green. That might indicate he was camouflaged in the regions his species was from. It could make him a good hunter, but also a most wanted prey. So Yoda could be a vicious predator that learned to be at peace in the Jedi Order, Interesting, Very Interesting.

I don't know what this whole vegetarian thing is about. If people weren't meant to eat animals, then why are they made out of meat?

WOW! You used my comment for a blog! I'm honored. Well, I really do think Yoda was a vegetarian. I bet at the Jedi Temple cafeteria, he would always choose the veggie burgers, not the Nerf burgers.

I thought it was a very interesting subject, because we know so little about Yoda. I have come to agree with you, he probably was a vegetarian.

I firmly believe Yoda is vegetarian - he belongs to a sect that GL created along the lines of several easter philosophies, buddhist being one of them. These religions practice vegetarianism NOT because they are going against nature, but in an attempt to live at peace with the world around them. By that line of thinking then, Yoda is definitely vegetarian. He takes a whiff of that hotdog thing & chucks it out. I'd like to think that Luke's first taste of Yoda's vegetarian stew was a little shocking (considering luke's farm upbringing) but probably eventually he too adopted the practice.
Great pics of your meeting w/Kenny Baker! So cool. I can't wait to meet someone ANYONE from the movies!
