 | The second Death Stars Fatal Design Flaw. |
The second Death Star was supposed to be the instrument that annihilated the Rebel Alliance.
Yet this did not happen, in fact this death star had a weakness even bigger than its predecessor.
The First death star had a small exhaust port leading to it's main reactor. It was this weakness, that the rebels exploited and used to destroy the space station.
The second death star had an even bigger hole in it's exterior with a tunnel large enough to fit the Millennium Falcon, this tunnel led strait to the main reactor thus making it even easier for the rebels to destroy it.
Now I know there was a defense shield in place, but The Emperor gave the rebels the exact location of the shield generator. He also allowed them to know exactly where the entry point on the death stars surface was. This is not very smart.
And again I have no choice but to say Emperor Palpatine was very careless when he set up his plan the eradicate the Rebel Alliance, again I have to say he Underestimated the Rebellions Military Power.
It's almost as if the imperials designed The Space Station to be "Rebel friendly" or something. I can imagine them have a meeting:
imp. Designer: well lest see, if we put a hole here and a tunnel there, the
Rebels should have no problem destroying the death star.
Palpatine: Yes you are absolutely right that would make it very easy
for those scum's, build it immediately.
The Emperor could just have given the rebels false coordinates of the shield generator and he could have made sure that the openings into the main reactor were closed at a curtain point or at least have them separately ray shielded, to make it more difficult for the rebel fighters to enter. Of course he should not have informed the Alliance about these extra security measures. But no he had to do it the easy way.
If they were given false coordinates, the Rebels would most likely never have found the shield generator and al their efforts in space would have been in vane.
And even if they did manage to knock out the shield, they would still have to find away to get past those ray shields. By the time they figured out how to do that their fleet would have been destroyed and their team on the surface would have been hunted down and killed.
This is what I would have done. What would you do, Let the rebels destroy your Death Star or like me, use any means necessary to defend it.
Please Comment, al agreements/disagreements and other ideas on the subject are welcome.
May The Force Be With You.......Always.

The 2nd DS was never completed, so if it had been, it would probably have less weakneses than the 1rst. Perhaps the shaft where the Millenium Falcon flew through didn't have a door, but would have if it was finished. So it's natural that an unfinished DS would have a lot of weakneses. And Palpatine never thought that the rebels would successfully destroy the shield generator.

Palpatine probably leaked the information because he knew that their Bothan spies would get to it anyway (like the first one). Although, if you look back, there's one thing he should have done; put Vader down on the surface and keep him there, not bringing him up to the Emperor and letting some stormies or Mara Jade do that (if she was there). I mean, the Emperor sure could've killed Luke. He almost did, but VADER saved him, but you never know. Maybe Luke would've laughed at the Emperor, who has a nervous breakdown, has a heart attack, and dies. You never know. Anyway, you know my opinion now
God bless

The Emperor wanted the Rebels to know everything about the Death Star so the Alliance would plan an attack. A trap was set for the attack and the Emperor's overconfidence led to the demise of the Death Star. The Emperor wanted the Rebels to know where to go so traps could be set at the shield generator and outside the Death Star.

No one seems to understand/ It was a GAME.
Palp: Yes, well, I say we put a massive tunnel to the main reactor.
Imp. officer: Why, sir.
Palp: Because, you idiot, we can just sit and watch them attempt to go throught the hole.
My genius plan allows us you watch them through my 71" window. The main reactor works and its just like watching a bird flying into a window. So, go make me some popcorn while I properly adjust my chair.
It just happened when the imp, officer went to make popcorn, well he switched off the shield of the death star. In doing so he gave confidence and an easy trip for the rebellion.

In the ROTJ commentary George Lucas said the Emperor wanted Vader and Luke present so Luke would kill Vader. The Emperor wanted Luke to kill Vader out of hate so Luke would be the Emperor's new apprentice. At the same time Vader wanted Luke to kill the Emperor allowing Vader to become the new Emperor.

Ah. Well, that's one of the Emperor's flaws, I suppose. He was getting a little old anyway, going senile. Give him another year and he would've had a stroke or something. .

The Emperor was overconfident. That's what lead to his death and the destruction of the 2nd Death Star. Since he told them the location of the shield generator, the Rebels destroyed it, and lead the starfighters to destroy the battle station. Overconfidence. That's what made the British lose the Revolutionary War. That was there weakness.

I think because he had all these traps set up that his overconfidence let relaxe and watch the shw going on in front of him(Luke and Vader)

The idea was to draw the rebellion and Luke into a trap, in the end it comes down to Palpatine's arrogance. He was counting on his Death Star and his fleet though and both failed to come through for him in the end.

He was counting on his Death Star and his fleet
Not to mention a legion of his finest troops on the surface. He expected a frontal assault by the Rebels (a plan spoiled by the Ewoks); once the Rebels were inside, it was simply a matter then of arresting and containing them (again, spoiled by the Ewoks).
Either way, the only role the incomplete status of the Death Star had to play was to make the Rebel Fleet believe it wasn't operational yet. The gaping holes in the superstructure should NOT have come into play because the plans on the surface SHOULD have prevented the ships from getting through the shield.
So, no, there wasn't a flaw in the design. It was a matter of timing.......

Because you can only build a giant, moon-sized space station capable of destroying entire planets in a set amount of time. They went as fast as possible, but that wasn't fast enough.

Yoda warned Luke about the temptations of the Dark Side, he was more prepared for what he had to face than Anakin/Vader was.
this and the fact that Luke trusted his friends to take care of themselves, was what kept him from turning to the dark side
But he knew the rebels were coming before the station was complete, why leave these weaknesses unattended if he knew they were going to be of importance.
But half of his plan was indeed spoiled by those cute little(man eating) bears known as Ewoks

1A. the emperor making the DS2 "seem" easy to destroy, 1. take out shield generator, 2. fly into superstructure and destoy reactor core was all part of the trap he originally set for the rebels. this in part to make "the trap" too desireable to let the chance go by, the rebels (even if they new or suspected the trap) would have no choice to pass up the chance too destroy this machine.....con't

.....1B. "your overconfidence is your weakness"--Luke in ROTJ. the emperor had committed a fatal flaw in his judgment when he underestimated the power of the rebel fleet,"we are quite safe from you pitiful little band here".--Palps in ROTJ.
"your faith in your friends is yours"--Palps in ROTJ. he truly believed that the rebels had no chance at all to succeed in this mission, that was why he had allowed the location of the SG to be "found". underestimating your opponent is a big mistake in any case it is far better to err on the side of caution than to be left wanting. i think that if Palps waited until the DS2 was completed he would of had a better chance at defeating the rebels.

anyone for some "storm trooper-on-a-stick"
or how about some "TIE fighter oysters"-- ok that one is just nasty i won't use that one again. stick around for some "deep fried emperor" or a quick order of "biker scout smasmies" direct form the Ewok cafe and Gorax center.

Maybe, the emperor subonciously wanted the rebels to win, c'mon, did you think it was possible for someone not to like our heroes?, maybe the deepest, smallest, tiny, force filled piece of innards, wanted the good ones to win. (Ok , this is probably the weirdest comment you may read in a long time, at least from me)
The 2nd DS was never completed, so if it had been, it would probably have less weakneses than the 1rst.
That's what I thought!, It was in its building process.

Maybe the Emperor did admire our Heroes, what, what did I say.
I believe it was the will of the force(and his own mistakes), that led to the emperors demise, but I could be wrong.
And about the DS not being completed, the emperor knew the Rebels where going to come before its completion, why didn't he or the designers take this in to account when building it.
