I have come up with quite a few questions from ANH (i just watched it again) and this one came to mind.

Why did General Dodanna say "May the Force Be With You" to the Rebel pilots before the Death Star attack?

I was under the impresion that no one knew about the force, other than Luke. Dodanna probably wouldn't know, would he? And wouldn't the other Rebels be like "MTFBWY? What is that?"
