Hi all.
Sorry it has taken me so long to post an entry, but I've been fairly busy. Here goes.
After reading a comment by Michelle1968 on ViagoAngel2's most recent blog, I found the idea for this blog.
Was Anakin's Jedi life worth more to him than his marriage to Padme, or was it not? And was Padme's life as a Senator worth more than her marriage to Anakin?
On a first look, for Anakin, the answer is no, the Jedi life was not worth as much as marriage, which can be seen when he gets married. But we must look deeper. For one, he did not out rightly say that he was married, and chose to keep it secret. This shows that he still wanted to be a Jedi. What he really wanted was both, and he did have both, but only for the Clone Wars era of 3 years. In the end, he chooses Padme over the Jedi, though he lets his feeling, i.e. anger, override his love for Padme and he ends up killing her.
Now, for Padme. She did know the consequences of this secret marriage, but she too seemed more interested in a life with Anakin than a Senatorial life. However, she too, same as Anakin, tried to lead the double life and keep the secret. However, her problem was not as severe as Anakin's, because (unless I'm very much mistaken) Senators can marry. Her problem would be the scandal of marrying a Jedi, and "taking" his life away from him. So of the two, Padme really had less to worry about. This seems unusual, because she is usually the one saying "No, not here" or things of that nature. This sense of protection for Anakin that she showed is admirable, but in the end, she loses some of her faith in Anakin, once Obi tells her the tragic story of Anakin killing younglings.
On the other hand, Anakin, who has much more to lose, seems almost reckless with his desire for Padme. He is, in the beginning of ROTS, practically not caring whether or not his secret is found out. Padme is, on the other hand, very much afraid of their secret, especially when she tells Anakin that she is pregnant.
So to answer the main question, neither Anakin nor Padme cared more about their "careers" than each other. This love eventually destroyed them, leaving one dead and the other as good as dead in the fearsome Vader suit.
Thanks for reading, and thanks to Viagoangel2 for the blog that sparked my idea.
God bless, and MTFBWY.
