Firefly and Serenity
Hi all!

I am going away this week, but please feel free to comment, i would love the opinons.

I was wondering whether or not to buy firefly, because on amazon.com, it is $36 or $26 used and new. This is a fsir amount of money, and my question is is it worth it? And should i watch serenity before it or after, i think it is the sequel, but i'm not sure. If some major firefly fan or anyone could help me, that would be great. A shame Vicomte's gone, we all know what he would say.

Thanks, God bless, and MTFBWY.

I'm not sure! I have not had the pleasure of viewing either, though I do plan to as soon as it is possible....The one to ask is the Master herself *bowing* the BOOTYLICIOUS Queen herself, her royal Majesty, ruler of all Vixens.....MASTER MINA :x ...that's all I got for ya cbern....have a great week....ANGEL

I suggest both of these in the highest possible terms.

You really don't have to watch the series to enjoy Serenity, but there's a few in-jokes that you'll get if you do. If you're really not sure, get Serenity. If you like what you see, then get the series and treat it as a big, long "prequel" to the film.

There's really no way to compare this with Star Wars because they are truly different properties, but here's my analogy. I would say Serenity and her crew are the kind that you would find hanging around with Han Solo in the days before EpIV. Just my opinion, though.

The one to ask is what about me??

Dude you should totally get it. Firefly is an excellent show. I've recently purchased the complete series, but I was a fan long before. I watched it from first to last episode when it was on T.V. I've watched the DVD multiple time.I've even begun making lego's of all the characters and of serenity herself. Trust me, not only is it a great scifi show but it has plenty of action and some pretty awesome flashbacks to the war. You should watch Firefly before you watch Serenity. You don't have to watch it before but it will certainly be more enjoyable. Hope that I was a help.

I could see Han and Wash piloting Serenity together. Or maybe even helping Mal captain Serenity. That would be really cool, wouldn't it?

cbern,

Watch Firefly first, then Serenity. I'm a huge fan of both. My wife just watched the series herself this past week and loved it! She is glad she saw the series before the movie given what takes place in the movie. In any event, it's a wonderful series to include the movie. You're going to enjoy it!

Like what KF said, given what happens in the movie it makes more sense to watch the show first. That's exactly what I did very recently. The story makes more sense, the inside jokes make more sense, events from the show don't get spoiled, and most importantly, you get to know the characters first. Which is important concerning certain events in the film.;)

I absolutely LOVE them!!

I purchased both, sight unseen, based on recommendation of those here on this site. I'm so glad I did because they are awesome!!!

Honestly, I started watching Serenity before Firefly at first, but didn't finish it. Then I watched the pilot episode of Firefly and then finished watching Serenity. I found I had a lot less confusion in the characters once I had seen the pilot of the series at least. Therefore, I would recommend watching the series (or at least the pilot) before Serenity.

The movie is made to stand on its own, but you'll get a lot more out of it with the series.

do what Im doing now: RENT it.

I have the entire Firefly series on rental at Netflix. After Im done with those Serenity is next.

so far Im two discs in and really enjoy the show.

I dont BUY DVD's as much as I used to; frankly I find few WORTH buying anymore, but I may pick up the series someday...but for now renting will do just fine.

rent it, see if you like it and THEN if you think you'd actually watch it more than once buy it.

Watch Firefly first, then Serenity..you'll appreciate it more this way. It is an excellent series and it's sad that the network pulled the plug, which says something about how out of touch they are. I had my wife watch it and she enjoyed it as much as I did. The more support this gets the better the chance we might see something else from the 'verse someday!
