I love stirring up controversy
I am a professional driver. I deliver Coca-Cola here in Texas. As I'm on the road all day, I see the best and the worst that drivers have to offer, and all too often it's only the bad. I am amazed daily at the idiocy that some drivers posess. They seem to make their own rules and God forbid you stand in their way. Then there's my belief that half the drivers on the road don't know how to respond in certain emergency situations. This is evidenced by what I call camping(hanging out in a cars blind spot and driving the same speed so that they never leave that spot.) I firmly believe that it should be at least as hard to get a regular licence as it is to get a CDL or even better, a pilot licence. I have been told that is too extreme and we just need to enforce the laws on the books. That may be, but keep count of all the poice officers you see the next time you drive somewhere. God Bless our officers but there are simply too many cars on the road for our overworked and underappriciated officers. Sorry for the rant but I had to get that off my chest.

I hear 'ya on the bad driving! I live in North Texas and if you have to drive from anywhere into Dallas it is murder! I've heard the statistic that says you are more likely to die in a car crash than in a plane. If that is true then they should make it harder to get a driver's licence. My father is a police officer in Garland so I'll pass on the praises to him!

I now work in the city - but spent 2.5 years commuting to work - 45 minutes each way. There were definately days where getting home in one piece was the biggest challenge of the day. My favorite was passing a guy (on the highway) reading the paper - laid out accross his steering wheel.

Hard to say if this will end up happening but it appears they intend to put black boxes into cars. It may be to help the police, hard to say but here is the article if you are interested:

I hear you on this. People take driving for granted thye forget its a privledge and think its a right. They should be tested to a high standard and tested periodically to that standard to insure only good drivers drive. But that would mean less drivers and less travel and a slow down in the economy.

That could be true, but look what the demand drop would do to the price of oil. And enviro types would be happy becasue of the drop in pollution.

It's not a bad thought, to be sure. With the amount of congestion and accidents that takes place on our roadways each day, the standards (if not the age) should be reassessed. I would feel much better about that than having more aggressive officers on the road - there's too much monitoring in our society as it is.

Be careful out there...:D

Bad drivers: a disgrace to the German automobile makers. What's even worse: elderly people who drive poorly. You look in their eyes and they don't look one bit flustered when people filp them off because they ran over an island to make a u-turn. The other bad drivers are the ones laughing at the people. Drive safely out there and remember: "The worst drivers are the ones that think they're the best." (Like my dad:D )
