STAR WARS IN HD
Well goodness gracious me! I have had an HD TV for over 1 year now and must say it is fantastic for movie buffs. It is fantastic for sports as well as movies.

For the 30th Anniversary of STAR WARS Cinemax showed all 6 films back to back in HD. I DVR'ed ( Digital Video Recorded ) them to view at my leisure.

A few months ago they were premiered for the first time in HD and I watched them then as well. They have been on several times in HD since.

What I have noticed while watching them is that some look better in HD than other ones. The worst looking one is Episode I The Phantom Menace. From what I have gathered researching it and watching the documentaries about the making of it is that the technology used that George Lucas developed through his companies was on a test trial more or less during the actual making of the film.

If you watch the DVD or watch it in HD the defects are apparent. Graininess is the main culprit and looks like an over sharpened jpeg in your photo editing software. If you have ever oversharpened an image you will notice what I am talking about. I have no doubt that this film will be remastered, probably when they redo the awful Yoda pupet in it with the CGI Yoda we are used to in Episodes II and III.

The best looking films are Episodes II and Episode III, wow ... jaw droppingly crystal clarity and vivid sharpness in HD like you would see with the human eye. Gorgeous!

I have taken pictures of my HD TV using a digital camera, because it does not operate using the same technology as a cathode ray old fashioned tv so the images come out very good and give you an idea of the clarity which you can see even in a digital camera photo.

Obviously in person it looks better. Here are 2 shots taken by me in this way.

Gorgeous! The films Episode II and Episode III were made using the more advanced digital cameras pioneered by George Lucas. The result is a great picture quality as seen in the photos.

The Original Trilogy surpisingly enough look almost as good as the Episode II and III films. The money spent by Lucasfilm restoring them and remastering them have paid off when they are watched at nearly the same quality as the masters. TESB looks the best in my opinion out of the original trilogy in HD. The film looks perfect and better than some new films released today in HD.

A great job was done remastering our beloved Star Wars films. I took a picture of Threepio on Tatooine and it looks great even as a digital camera image.

Personally I cannot wait to get an affordable HD player that plays HD DVD or Blu-ray HD DVD. I want one that plays both formats and they have begun making those. The future looks bright for Star Wars films in HD as an HD DVD whether it be Blu-ray or HD DVD.

When those players are affordable I will get one.

In the mean time my next goal is to get an HDMI upconverted regular DVD player that increases regular DVD quality for HD tvs. I have seen some for as little as $70!

In any case watching Star Wars in HD offers literally the best picture quality ever available for the films. That includes the theater presentations, unless you saw them in a digital theater or an Imax digital presentation then you did not see them in this good of a quality on the big screen.

I am in heaven with this HD technology, I am a movie buff and I have seen and heard the calling to wish for a Star Wars HD DVD box set. I am sure that is not in the far too distant future.

... they had better contain ALL of the original trilogy deleted scenes too.
