Where we last left off, I was talking about how Plagueis may have developed his power for the sole purpose of turning the Chosen One, Anakin, to the Dark Side.
But if he's so "wise," why didn't he use it for himself. Well, this may take some time to explain so let's begin with a qoute from Sidious's databank entry:
But for a Sith, immortality was a futile pursuit. The secretive Sith order counted upon the death of a master and the rise of an apprentice to further itself. True to tradition, Sidious killed Plagueis upon learning his Master's secrets.
That qoute may identify the most important idea of this topic. Plagueis was immortal, not invincible. He could only stop natural death, not homicidal, suicidal, illness-caused, or accidental death, so the Sith customs prevailed and Sidious killed his Master.
Surely a Sith Lord who is known for his wisdom knew this. Perhaps he only created this power so his apprentice could seduce Anakin with it and of course, he left his apprentice to come up with a plan to lead Anakin to a need for this power, which seemed to be exercised through Anakin's developing need to protect those he loved during the brutal Clone Wars which itself began due to Sidious, although that of course wasn't the only purpose of the Clone Wars. And Plagueis was the only one who could develop such a power to rival the powers of the Shamans of the Whills:
Plagueis, the wise, was an adept of some of the most arcane and unnatural applications of the Force. --from the Darth Sidious databank entry
So, perhaps, there's a deeper meaning to the title: Darth Plagueis the Wise.
Now, we move onto the next question: Did Darth Plagueis create Anakin Skywalker?
The Vader Ultimate Guide (specifically "The Story of Anakin" by Daniel Wallace) suggests this:
If the lore of the Sith Lords is to be believed, Anakin Skywalker began life as the by-product of Sith experimentation. Darth Plagueis, a devotee of the dark side and lover of the numinous and arcane, develped a method of preserving life in those who were dying--and, taken to the extreme, of inducing midi-chlorians to produce life out of nothing. Anakin Skywalker, who never had a biological father, is believed to have been the result of Darth Plagueis' vision. It remains unclear whether the deed came about through the efforts of Plagueis or through those of Plagueis' ambitious apprentice, Darth Sidious.
Now, this adds a large layer of depth to this subject. It says that Anakin was a by-product of Sith experimentation. "Experimentation" is the key word there. This means that Plagueis wasn't assured success and although he may have created Anakin (if the Sith lore is true), perhaps it is the Force that caused Plagueis to somehow not succeed and create a creature that in the long run, would bring about the end of the Sith. By the time this mistake reared its ugly head (or in the Jedi's case, it's beautiful head), Sidious had probably already murdered Plagueis and took the mantell of Dark Lord of the Sith.
We all know from the events in the PT that Sidious is very adaptable. So, perhaps he adapted to the situation by seducing Anakin.
Now, I know you're all saying this discredits almost everything I said before reaching this question but in times like this, we must remember the wise words of Master Yoda: "Slimy.....mudhole....my home you call--" no, I mean "A prophecy misread could have been."
What if the Chosen One was originally to lead the Sith to great power (as the EU would call it, the Sith'ari). Someone who can coax midi-chlorians into creating life has certainly already crossed the boundaries of this mystical energy field. But perhaps the Force, or maybe the Whills who could mantain a connection between the galaxy and the netherworld of the Force, changed this, and for that matter, the Prophecy to create a being that would keep the Force balanced. I don't know if this makes much sense but it seems to be a possible reason.
That pretty much wraps up my analysis of Darth Plagueis the Wise. I'd love to hear what you guys think so please give me some feedback.
