The Saga Begins

The saga continues......
I guess it's time for part two of this thing. As I said in my last blog, "my purpose for writing this blog is not the PT, but the OT. As I watched the OT, I tried to pretend as if I hadn't seen them before and tried to interpret them in the light of the PT. I have done this to a lesser extent in previous viewings, but I really tried to focus on this during latest viewing. I also tried to ignore the fact that certain lines and scenes in the PT were done to make parallels with the OT."

So, without further ado, my reactions to ESB.

Luke and the wampa: We're going to get to see Yoda again!!!!! I wonder what he's been up to the last twenty years?? Language lessons perhaps??? :p

Like mother, like daughter- just like with Padme, who it was almost impossible to get her to leave Naboo, it's very hard to get Leia to leave her people. It really is a shame that Padme never got to see Leia grow up. She would be so proud of her daughter and all that she has worked for and accomplished.

Ewww!!!!! Leia just kissed her brother!!!! Gross!!!! (Where's a vomiting yodacon when you need one?)

EU moment: it's Hobbie, Wes, and Wedge!!!! :x:x:x

Dagobah: Can I just say that I never want to visit a swamp. Ever. Yoda!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love him fighting with R2. Although, they should recognize each other. R2 never had his memory wiped and he was Anakin's. You would think that Yoda would remember him.

Emperor and DV- so now we know that they know that Padme lived long enough to deliver a child (won't they be surprised when they find out there are two?) But I wonder why they keep referring to Luke as the "son of Skywalker" instead of just saying your/my son. And could it be that we see Anakin begin to reemerge just a little bit? He does show fatherly concern with not wanting to kill Luke outright. What is going through his mind since he now knows that Palpy lied to him about Padme's death?

Yoda's hut: Poor R2 having to stand in the rain. Obi-Wan never really seemed all that reckless to me. It was more the scrapes that Anakin got them both into. And why is there no mention of Qui-Gon????

Asteroid "cave:" the eternal question, where exactly did they enter???? Nevermind, I really don't want you to answer that.

Dark force cave: they shouldn't be fighting!!!!! They are father and son. Oh, wait, Luke was really fighting himself. I wonder when he will really understand why the cave showed what it did?

Jango??? Oh, little Boba's grown up. It would be interesting to know if Anakin recognizes the armor from Geonosis. And Boba still has Daddy's ship.

I hope Luke's visions don't lead him do to the same thing that Anakin's led him to do.

So now Luke and DV really shouldn't be fighting. Although it does seem like DV is just toying with him and he could be a lot more aggressive with his dueling.

Stop the presses!!!! DV is Luke's father....oh, wait, wait, we already knew that. :p
Why is the Skywalker family response to bad news "Nooooooooo!!!!!!"? It will be interesting to see how Luke responds to this news once he's had a chance to really think about it. It probably means we will get to see Yoda again. Or a blue-glowy Ben.

Escape from Bespin: Leia is using the Force!!! I wonder how long it will take her to figure out what she's doing and why? Will Yoda tell Luke about Leia when he is explaining about DV/Anakin?

Does anyone else think that the shot of Luke and Leia looking out of the viewport makes them look like they are about 9 or 10 years old and they are playing dress up?

So there you have it folks. And because I know some of you will be disappointed if I don't......:D <---Click

If you go to the message boards and click on Blog Feeback and go to the link entitled Blog Suggestions (or something like that, I'm too lazy to varify it) you can petition for one. ;)

I wonder what he's been up to the last twenty years?? Language lessons perhaps???

Tutor: "Repeat after me... 'We must destroy the Sith.'"
Yoda: "Destroy the Sith, we must."

Great observations.

Yeah, it's about time they expanded the yodacon collection! ;)

Asteroid "cave:" the eternal question, where exactly did they enter???? Nevermind, I really don't want you to answer that
Eh, but I'm going to, anyway. :) Don't worry, they enter through the slug's mouth, but when they take off again, they go back the way they came (it took me a couple viewings before I figured this one out).

Mirax, I'm wondering--how hard was it to put yourself in first-time viewer mode? I think it would be incredibly hard, but you seem to be doing a nice job of it.

Yeah he did - he's just trying to get a rise of him.
And seeing as R2 can fly, that shouldn't be too hard.

Heee. Love the LEGO SW themes you've been using in these posts :)

Language lessons perhaps?

Guess not. Looks more like he took insane person lessons or had one too many conversations with the mossy log outside his hut :p

R2 never had his memory wiped and he was Anakin's

It's never been confirmed either way that R2 had his memory wiped. For all we know, it was wiped but R2 is sly enough to have retained certain information (I'd like to think that at least). Anyway, same arguement as with Owen - why should anyone remember one astromech out of a million? Even if Yoda did remember R2, he wasn't going to blow his crazy cover :p

Nor I. Unless it's in a soundstage :D

Such an excellent observation, and I think one of the things that makes the story so great. I really like to think that with the Emperor's encouragement, both he and Vader buried "the good" Anakin Skywalker and denied that they were the same person. It was the only way to keep Vader "alive".

I'm taking up all this comment space, but I'm loving the inspiration!...

Obi-Wan never really seemed all that reckless to me.

I would love for this to be a reference to the J Apprentice series, but alas, it's really only an inference at the beginning of TPM when QG preaches a bit to OW. Also thanks to the PT and the EU, I can totally imagine QG's spirit and know how OW came to be a ghost.

I wonder when he will really understand why the cave showed what it did?

I think in his subconscious as he lurked around the underbelly of CCity looking to confront Vader. After all, he told Yoda and OW he was going to save his friends, but when he got there he pretty much blew them off to find DV. My question is why was he so surprised when DV told him the truth?

Leia is using the Force! YESS!!

I agree with nob01 that Yoda recognised R2. As with Obi Wan's first scene in ANH you just need to 'clear your mind' and it actually plays brilliantly. It's quite hilarious that R2 may well have been saying to Luke "this IS Yoda you idiot! Why doesn't anyone listen to me...?"

This is the best NOOOOO!!!! from SW!!:D

Another excellent blog Mirax! Not a lot I can comment on that the others haven't already.

Apart from maybe the Jango/Boba thingy. No doubt Vader recognises the armour imo - he and Fett do have an EU history. They've even battled each other a couple of times. And notice how Vader contemptuously refers to Boba as only "the Bounty Hunter" when Fett is sdtanding right next to him in ESB, and not by name. Could he be trying to provoke Boba...?

thank you. it's really not that hard, but it does require a constant, conscious focus on being in first time viewer mode. and, to be honest, not all of my thoughts occurred to me during the actual watching of the movies, some came while i was writing the blog.

Yeah he did - he's just trying to get a rise of him.
And seeing as R2 can fly, that shouldn't be too hard.

thanks. i'm not sure what i'm going to do for rotj because i don't think any of the images come from that portion of the game.

:^O :^O :^O i'm going to have to remember the mossy log comment.

very true. hence the emperor lying to anakin about padme's (supposed ;))death.

i don't care and thank you.

but obi-wan specifically mentions "when you [yoda] taught me." and i really need to read those books, sigh....

I think in his subconscious as he lurked around the underbelly of CCity looking to confront Vader. .... My question is why was he so surprised when DV told him the truth?

very good point. maybe it was less surprise and more just not wanting to believe it?

i forgot about the eu. and now that you mention it, he probably was trying to provoke boba.

How did I miss your first one of these?!?

Anyhoo, how much interaction did Yoda and R2 have during the PT? Obi-Wan should've known him (though they were both pretty dusty at the time), but I'm not sure about Yoda.

And I like your catch about the "son of Skywalker" reference. Interesting how both Obi-Wan AND Palpatine considered Anakin to be truly dead and gone. Hopefully Luke will see things differently!

well, if you came around more often......:D

i think yoda would have been very well informed about the chosen one.

who would have thought that obi-wan and palpy would have something in common? i do feel that obi-wan gave up on anakin too soon. maybe a son will see things differently than a "brother." ;)

Yoda taught Obi-Wan as a youngling, as he did all the younglings - and yes, if you read the JA books you will see that Obi-Wan was very reckless and by the time he got to be QG's apprentice he started to turn around. I think OW actually became the more "responsible" one because QG was pretty much the crazy one! That's a conversation for another day though. If you just read the first 4 or so of the JA books, you will get the bulk of this and the best part of the series. They are very quick reads! :)

Yes, and very reminiscent of ANH.... ;)

NO respect, I tell ya....

I love him fighting with R2. Me too. :^O Although, they should recognize each other. R2 never had his memory wiped and he was Anakin's. You would think that Yoda would remember him. Oh, I totally think he does. :D

My dad is wondering the same thing and wants me to blog about that scene! Wow!

I hope Luke's visions don't lead him do to the same thing that Anakin's led him to do.
Whoa, good point!
