The Real Hero of the Saga...R2-D2
Boop Boop!

Yes, Artoo, I know you've been waiting a long time for this.

Bleep Boop?

Yeah, i know those Skywalkers are always stealing the spot light, huh? Running around in their fancy outfits and sporting humming lightsabers....yeah, i know what you mean...

Oh, hello there, I was just talking wiht Artoo about who the true heroes of the Star Wars Saga are and...

Bleep Beep!

Yes, Artoo, I was just getting to that. Any way, my obtuse little friend here was just saying how his role as the true hero of the saga has never really been acknowledged before.

Boop Boop!

Of course, Artoo, I agree with you one-hundred percent and I was just about to explain to my friends here just exactly why.

So with out any further interuptions...

ooo OOO

...I'll get to the point. In many aspects our favorite carbon scored little friend has always been the quiet hero of the Saga and, quite frankly, without him some of the most galaxy turning events would have never occured. Let's start at the beginning.

Upon our first introduction with Artoo, we quickly see that his bravery is not constrained to his size. As soon as the Trade Federation cruiser blasts a gaping hole in the Queen's pursuing shuttle, carrying all of our favorite heroes...

Boop!

Sorry, Artoo...sub-heroes. Artoo is immediately dispatched and saves a gaggle of characters that would soon quickly shape the course of the galaxy. What if the ship had been captured right there and Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan were halted dead in their tracks? Anakin would just have ended up another rack cleaner and junk man the rest of his life.

Later, in the Geonosian Droid Factory, using his ever quick wit Artoo quickly flew to Padme's rescue, saving her from her husbands future fate. Certainly if she had perished right then and there there wouldn't have been any Skywalker twins, now would there...

Don't forget that Artoo always remained a faithful copilot and navigator throughout the Saga saving the Skywalker's butts more often than not too. Jedi reflexes...sure....

Or how about Artoo always having the right key to open any door and get our sub-heroes out of danger in just the knick of time? We would have had some thinner sub-heroes without our little tooting friend! Or even fixing the Falcon on a split second and allowing everyone to escape another all too close call with the Empire.

Oh, and most importantly, let's not forget how many times poor Artoo has had to fix Threepio... Although, I'm not too sure that was all heroic...

Bleeting!

Only kidding, Threepio! Anyhow, if you open your eyes up to the saga you'll notice dozens of occasions when our trash can shaped hero saves the day and does it in style I might add. It's about time our favorite friend recieved due recognition.

Anakin, Luke, Han, Obi-Wan... Step aside fellas and let the true hero walk (or rather roll) the carpet!

R2-D2.

Happy bleeting heard at the end of Episode IV
