The Meatball Surgeons Of Star Wars
Welcome to my second comparison blog about Star Wars things and real-world events. Today's comparison will be more obvious than the one in my last blog, "In The End, We're All Just Guerillas. But by now you're probably dieing to know what my topic will be (j/k), and it is...the surgeons of the Medstar Duology and M*A*S*H.

As you may or may not know, the Medstar Duology by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry is about a small Republic Mobile Surgical Unit on the planet Drongar patching up clone troopers only to have them come back in more pieces then before. The Republic and CIS are only there for the planet's one useful resource, the miracle drug bota. In Rimsoo 7 a group of doctors and nurses work their way through the war in their own ways and encounter many different conflicts along the way.

M*A*S*H follows the same dark tone as the Medstar Duology in showing the darker sides of war as the story follows a Mobile Army Surgical Hospital stationed 3 miles from the frontlines and it is set during the Korean War. The show is mainly about the doctors of the 4077th MASH in South Korea working their way through the war and giving off a heavy anti-war message.

From my point of view, Jos Vondar represents Hawkeye in the sense that they both have similar thoughts and emotions. The Republic would this time represent the United States and its allies. The CIS would in turn represent North Korea and the Communists or Commies as Frank calls them.

Chew on this for awhile, the Republic Mobile Surgical Unit (RMSU) and the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) do sound very similar don't they? Both also show the viewers and readers the darker and grimmer side of war, not just heroes swooping in and saving the day. Plus, both stories display how horrible and gruesome the world is but at the same time giving it all a lighter tone by adding humor to the situations. Both also show how their kind of surgery got nicknamed "Meatball Surgery" as dozens of wounded pour into the compounds after each and every battle.
