Eragon Review
Hello everyone! Kvetha Fricäya! (Greetings, friends!)

Yes, I know, this has absolutely nothing to do with SW, but I'm sure lots of people are intersted in this.

I saw Eragon on Saturday, and I'm still not sure if I liked it or not. A lot of my friends and I love the books, so we wanted to see it really early. I knew it wouldn't measure up to the book, and I knew some things would differ from the book, but I never thought they'd change so many things!

If you've read the book, you know that Eragon kills the Shade in Fa rthen* Dûr right after Saphira and Arya bursts through Isidar Mithrim above them. I was very upset (maybe even a little angry) that Eragon kills Durza while flying on Saphira as Durza rides on a "Dark Magic Dragon"... my friend and I just looked at each other and said, "What is this?" I noticed that a lot of people in the theatre had the same reaction. Needless to say, this did not make me very happy.

I was also upset with the way Saphira grew up. She just kinda did. She was flying around and just became full grown. This was very disappointing, as she was supposed to grow up gradually with the help of Eragon.

And yet another thing - Arya told Eragon that she was a princess in the movie! He wasn't supposed to find that out until the middle of Eldest, when he was in Ellesméra, training with the Elves! Speaking of Elves, Arya didn't have pointed ears!

There also weren't any Dwarves! The Twins weren't in it! The Urgals were the same size as humans! There were no Kull! Brom and Eragon didn't go to Teirm! They didn't go to Dras-Leona and see Helgrind! They didn't mention the name of Fa rthen* Dûr or Carvahall! They didn't mention Yazuac or the Hadarac Desert! King Galbatorix was never seen in the book, but he played a fair part in the movie! Zar'roc looked as if it was painted red! Saphira picked her own name - Eragon didn't give it to her! She didn't have spikes on her neck, but a mane-like group of hair!

And that's just off the top of my head!

I have to give credit to them though - I understand that stuff had to be left out of the movie, but some major aspects were changed. To stop being negative (yes, I do realize that everything to this point has been), the visuals were excellent. Most things looked as I thought they would, as well as most of the characters (wasn't Eragon supposed to have black hair?). So cinematically and visually, the movie was superb. And if you haven't read the book, I'm sure you'd think the movie was superb too... just if you're a hard-core fan like me, you might have some problems with it.

But enough with my opinion (I am only a small part of this site, anyways!), what did you all think of the movie? Likes, dislikes? Angry, sad, disappointed, happy, elated? Let's hear from you!

May the Force be with You! May your swords stay sharp!

*The site wouldn't let me write this word - there should be no space between 'Fa' and 'rthen'

I'm not actually interested in Eragon. The book was bad. I read the first 50 pages and didn't like it. Everyone else I know thinks that it will be a big hit but only with the kids.

Eragon RULES. But Star Wars will always be better, of course. This blog confirmed what I've known from the moment a friend told me that Eragon was becoming a movie- that the movie would destroy the book. But I still have to see it. Yeah, I'm evil to myself.

YES!! Someone else agrees with me!!!! :D Anyhoo, I saw the movie Saturday too, and I was appalled. I've read the books and loved them to death and can't believe the "movie people" messed it up so bad. Also, Elva (the baby Eragon blessed) was never there, Solembum (Angela's werecat) wasn't in there, and the cities, which were supposed to be REAL CITIES were wooden villages that were burned down. Also, Arya was a redhead--it states clearly in the book that Arya has raven black hair.

CONT'D Also, Brom died at the completely wrong time and he told Eragon he was a Rider waaaaay before he was supposed to!! I know they can't make the movie exactly like the book, but if they actually made it 2 1/2 hours like most movies, I think it would have been a lot better (it was only 1 hour and 39 min).

CONT'D And it makes me more mad that the things they left out are what make the second book interesting (ie, ELVA) and Murtagh was just...there. He and Eragon never really developed a friendship so when...stuff happens... in the next book, it won't be nearly as heartbreaking. One last thing, after Roran leaves, Eragon goes out and looks at the sunset with just music as the background--like some OTHER movie we know.... :) My rant's over. Sorry about the super long comment!

Don't worry about your "super long comment", jedileia. I love super long comments! I completely agree with everything you said - I did notice that Elva wasn't there. I was really comfused with that one. What are they going to do now in the Eldest movie (if there is one)? Elva played a fairly big part in the 2nd book! And I started laughing really hard when Eragon looked out at the sunset. I thought it was actually hilarious!

CONT'D You're right again, jedileia. When "stuff happens" in the next book, the people who will only see the movie won't understand the emotional stuff that the book-readers will feel.
I thought Brom died too early, but I didn't want to say anything in case I was wrong! Now I know I was right! Thanks!
Thanks for all your comments, everyone!
Until next time, MTFBWY!

Kvetha Fricia,

I havn't seen the movie yet, but some of those changes sound kinda cool. I like the idea of Eragon killing Durza on Saphira, that seems like it would be more...actiony( made up word ). I'm perfectly fine with Arya's hair being a different color, and from clips I've seen on the internet the Saphira growing up scene seems looks visually stunning and I'm okay with how they did it. But, are you telling me that there were NO dwarves in the movie? Like, Hrothgar and Orik were no where to be found? And they didn't go to Tierm? Isn't it a pretty big scene in Eldest were Jeod tells Roran all bout Eragon, who is that gonna work now?

And they didn't go through the Hadarac Dessert? I love that part in the book!! I don't mind Galabatorix being there, that's not that bad. I know I'll still enjoy the movie, but the thing I'm most incensed about is the lenght. It's only and hour-and-a-half long? I hate that!! I'll still go see it a probably love it, but I wish that not so much had been taken out.

I know, Master Jedi Michael! I was thinking the same thing about them not going to Tierm. And the Dwarves not being there was very strange. That's a very important part in the book! But oh well, I always knew the books would be better! ;)

Hey, I thought you hated Eragon!
No no no! I enjoy the books, it just makes me angry that it's so much like SW (as you well know... ;)) I really don't like the movie though. Talk about a terrible book to film adaptation! X-(
