The Weaponry of Star Wars: Part I
Hello everyone!

A couple blogs ago, I asked for help in thinking up a new topic. Yodabud3 gave me exactly what I was looking for - a great topic. He suggested doing a blog on types of blasters. That's exactly what I'm going to... except I'm going to expand on it a little... I'm going to do a series of blogs (probably 3, maybe more) on the weaponry of Star Wars, EU and all.

My list is alphabetical. Most of my information is coming from the Databank, but I may look at Wookie/wiki-pedia and the New Essential Chronology. One last note - if I have not listed something as being part of the EU, it is because I haven't been able to find a reference to it in the EU anywhere. Please let me know if I've missed something like this! Well, enough of this boring intro... let's get started!

First up, we have the Anti-infantry laser battery (Ep. V). The one and only appearance of this weapon was at the Battle of Hoth (3 A.B.Y.), and were used to try to fend off the Imperial Forces, although they had little effect. Made to blend in with their environment, the Anti-infantry laser battery was a featureless, blank white cylinder. It requires two crewmen to operate it, and it has a firing range of 16 km's.

The Anti-vehicle laser cannon (Ep. V) was also only seen at the Battle of Hoth (3 A.B.Y.). These weapons were portable, powerful dish shaped weapons that didn't cause any damage to the Imperial AT-AT's. The troopers, however.... This antiquated piece of weaponry dates back to the Clone Wars, and can only fire eight shots before its energy is depleted.

The Ascension gun (Ep.'s I, V) was used not only in the Battle of Hoth by Luke Skywalker to destroy an Imperial Walker, but by Padmé Amidala and her team during the Battle of Naboo (32 B.B.Y.), as they attempted to capture Viceroy Nute Gunray. The Ascension gun can carry up to 20 metres of cable.

The Blaster (Ep.'s I-VI, EU), however, is still the favourite among military and civilians alike. Widely used and available in hundreds of shapes and sizes, the blaster pistol is one of the oldest and common weapons in the galaxy.

The CR-1 blaster cannon (EU - Star Wars: Battlefront, video game) was used by the Rebel Alliance during their plight against the Empire. Originating during the Clone Wars, the CR-1 blaster cannon is incredibly powerful, and fires multiple shots at once.

The Darksaber (EU - Darksaber, novel) was a superweapon made by the Hutts based upon the blueprints of the original Death Star. It was later destroyed by asteroids, after failing to work because of fatal design flaws. (12 A.B.Y.)

The E-60R missile launcher (EU - Star Wars: Battlefront, video game) was a portable Separatist weapon used during the Clone Wars. It was a lightweight, cheap weapon developed soon after the Battle of Geonosis (22 B.B.Y.) in response to the Republic's superior armoured vehicles.

The Electrostaff (Ep. III) was used by General Grievous and his bodyguards against Jedi and Clone Troopers. Made of lightsaber resistant phrik alloy and armed with electromagnetic ends, the electrostaff is capable of holding its own against even Jedi.

The Force Harvester (EU - Star Wars: Clone Wars, video game) was an evil machine used to suck the Living Force out of an area and convert it into energy to power the Dark Reaper, a weapon used during the Great Sith War (4000 B.B.Y.).

The gaderffii (Ep.'s II, IV, VI), or the Gaffi Stick, is the primary weapon of the Sand People of Tatooine. Made of scrap metal, the gaderffii is often dipped in the poison of desert animals to make them more deadly.

Comments are welcome everyone! Keep your eyes peeled for Part II!

May the Force be with You, and Happy 30th Anniversary!
