Clone Wars a sad end to SW?! I don't think so!
Hello everyone!

So it's been a long while since I've had the chance to make it onto the blogs - school's too busy! X-( I'm planning on (soon) posting a list of my "collection", as well as a book list (inclusing my favourites and least favourites, etc), however for now I'm going to chat about the Clone Wars and the new DVD.

On Tuesday, I convinced my mom to take me to Best Buy early in the morning (of course to buy the shiny new CW DVD on it's release day), and I got there fifteen minutes after the store opened. I'm very glad (and nerdily proud ;)) to be the first to pull it off the shelf and buy it. I brought it home and looked at it for a while (that cool, I know...) but didn't get a chance to watch any of it until yesterday afternoon. The special features are wonderful! (One interesting thing, for me at least, was that the soundtrack was recorded in Prague, Czech Republic, where I was for a few days last summer!)

I watched the deleted scenes first (they're always my favourite) and was surprised that many of them had in fact been axed. Thre was a great scene of Anakin and Ahsoka versus Ventress and droids, which I loved. Considering how short the movie was, I was very surprised to see how many great scenes were cut. I suppose Lucas, Filoni, and the crew had their reasons...

So then I was shocked to open up the newspaper and see this headline: "The Clone Wars sad end to Star Wars saga". :O Knowing I wouldn't agree (but not being able to stop myself nevertheless) read on. It was a very uneducated article, clearly writen by someone who doesn't like Star Wars (let alone a fan) to begin with. Here's a few quotes from the article...

"[...]and introduces an annoying new character, monkey-faced Padme Ahsoka."
Annoying? ?:| ... maybe. Monkey-faced? hmmm... wait!?! Padme Ahsoka? What's that all about? Word to the wise: if you're going to insult a character, get their name straight. Geesh!

"The story fills in gaps between Episodes II and III [...] Personally, I don't remember feeling all gappy. This story did not need to be told."
No gaps? An entire galactic war wasn't a gap to be filled in? Hmm... I wonder what this guy considers a "gap" (because it's definitely not my definition). And if there was any story outside of Anakin's that absolutely needed to be told in the SW universe, it was the war that brought down Galactic civilization as they knew it. Or maybe that's just me. =S

"The stylized animation is static, clunky, and herky-jerky. Compared to Pixar's artistry, The Clone Wars looks like Neanderthal cave paintings."
First of all, if the author did his homework, he'd know that it's not supposed to be life-like. Lucas wanted TCW to have that new edge to it... however, is it just me or did Neanderthals have computer imaging processors which simulated human movement? Hmmm...

And finally, "He [Filoni] and his colleagues seem clueless about the crap they created, just as Lucas himself is in denial. Over, the Star Wars saga is."
Well, that's just downright rude. That's fine, state your opinion (however flawed), but do so tactfully... "crap" usually isn't a word one sees in a newspaper review. And maybe someone should tell him about the continuing TV series, a second TV series, the extended book deal with DelRey, new video games, comics, and collectibles that are all happening or in the works at the moment.

Star Wars, if anything, is definitely not only alive, but thriving strongly.

I'm definitely going to send the author of this article an email (more... polite... than this blog, I suppose), and see what he has to say. Hopefully he won't shrug me off... we'll see.

May the Force be with you, Always! :D

PS I saw Quantum of Solace (the 22nd Bond film) on midnight Thursday night, looking forward to another fantastic addition to the series, and was a little disappointed. It was an excellent film, don't get me wrong, however it didn't stand up to my (possibly too high) expectations, and it didn't beat Casino Royale (but, admitedly, CR was a pretty hard film to outdo).

Wow, Padme Ahsoka? I must have missed that new character. ;) I'll have to go back and watch it to see if I can find this "Padme Ahsoka". ;)

Nice blog my friend, I need to get The Clone Wars on DVD now so I can see all the special features B-)

Haha nice nob01! I sent him an email a few hours ago... I'll see if he responds (although I doubt it). It was very hard outlining the flaws while trying to be nice!

For many SW fans, the clone wars is an important piece of SW history that many of us want to see. Lucas understands that the public will probably dislike much of what he does with SW(just see their reviews of the original trilogy), but if most fans enjoy the series, than somebody's doing something right.

I don't know which quote to quote, they're all equally stupid, movie critics tend to have an over rated view on the importance of their own opinion. And if his vocabulary is so poor he use words like "crap" to describe something in a newspaper article, he should reconsider his line of work (or at least his employer should).

Sometimes I really wish I had an assassin droid.

I needed to get this out of my system.

I'm having the same problem. Personally, the series is a step in the right direction for Star Wars. It kinda moves away from the story of Anakin and more towards some "good ol' fashioned fun". Yeah, I use that phrase every single time I'm discussing the new Clone Wars. This dude obviously wrote from an extrememely biased point of view.

Let us know if he replies to your e-mail!

Ya I agree. Most people liked it, I think. Clearly he didn't! =S

Grrrrrrr...........X-(

Stuff like this really chaps my hide!!! I'm glad you sent the email!

I'm very glad (and nerdily proud) You've made geeks around the world proud! ;)

BTW, I need to go elsewhere and get a copy of the DVD...I got mine from Wal Mart, and while it did have a cute little book with it, there were no special features, no second disc, unless I was just so excited to have it I wasn't paying attention. I'll go check that out right now.

I find that sometimes non-fans dislike SW just as much as we like it! Oh well, the author has his own opinion, as flawed as it is!;)

I rather enjoyed TCW movie, and am immensely enjoying the TV series. I know here in Canada, you and I can see it on Sunday nights. Did you watch it tonight and what did you think?

Ha, my mom and I got to Target a half an hour before it opened, and we had to wait in line to get a copy of TCW! :^O The pretty little two-disc special edition of course. B-)

Hmm... I wonder what this guy considers a "gap" (because it's definitely not my definition).

The only gap is the one in his head! Really, there's never been any "gaps" in Star Wars, but a good part of the reason why it's stayed alive for so long is the constant expansion and revision of the storyline.

monkey-faced Padme Ahsoka.

Come on, guys! Padme Ahoska! Don't you remember her?! Red-face girl with really long legs and a thing for a guy called Obi-Han Skywalker. ;)

That's fine, state your opinion (however flawed), but do so tactfully... "crap" usually isn't a word one sees in a newspaper review.

I couldn't agree more. There's nothing more upsetting to me than someone who doesn't state their views respectfully.

Hopefully he won't shrug me off... we'll see.

I, too, sent him an e-mail, and tried to be as polite as possible. It wasn't easy, but I sure hope he says something in return.

I'll go check that out right now.
Good luck, GB! Hope everything works out!

Yeppers! I really enjoyed it... I think it keeps getting better every week, and I'm always awed by the animation. The Ahsoka-Grievous battle was really cool! What about you?

Awesome... let me know how that goes! It's hard being polite though to someone who clearly doesn't understand, eh?!

Thank you very much, JPA!! It's nice to know people actually read my stuff! :P

He's just an idiot. Movie critics are generally stuck up so I don't listen to them. In fact, I don't even read reviews! That way I can avoid getting angry. lol

What about you?

I thought it was great! I loved the duel between R2 and R3 ... such emotion between the two battling droids. I think the show is getting better each week and I do look forward to each new one. Now this coming episode with Jar Jar ... hmmm ...
