A Month in Books
Hello everyone!

Well, it's been a crazy month, with the news of the Star Wars In Concert Tour (to which I am eagerly awaiting an announcement of a Canadian date) and the upcoming CV ( :D ), and, for me, a month of summer school that kept me away from the blogs. It was kind of worth it though - I learned a lot and loved the course I took (physics). :x

Also, with the lack of good television during the summer, I've been reading a lot more (yay!), which has translated to 6 Star Wars books read last month (plus 2 Harry Potter) - Darth Bane PoD and RoT, the Coruscant Nights Trilogy, and Death Star. :)

I absolutely loved the Darth Bane novels, and am eagerly awaiting the release of Dynasty of Evil. :) It's such a great insight into a past I had never really known much about (or, frankly, been interested in), and Drew K has got me hooked! He is a great author.

I then read Coruscant Nights, written by Michael Reaves, which far surpassed my expectations - I actually enjoyed it more than Bane. :O When they were first released I wasn't too keen on the idea of them, with new characters and whatnot, but a sale came along at Chapters, and I ended up buying them. It was a great choice!! There was just the right mix of familiar characters and settings (Vader, Typho, Aurra Sing, Coruscant, etc) and new ones that really made it feel like Star Wars. And above all that, I absolutely love Michael Reaves' writing - it reminded me so much of Timothy Zahn that I was immediately hooked!

I was happy, then, when I got to Death Star, because I got to read more of Reaves' work (written with Steve Perry). Death Star surpassed Nights, with so many different storylines from across the galaxy coming together near the end of the book. I was so impressed by the complexity and attention to detail that was put into this novel. Little things that connected it to the original film that, surprisingly, added a new layer to the movie I've (we've) loved for so long. :D I read DS very fast, because of the amazing content, and was sad to see it end. :( I really hope Reaves writes another SW novel sometime (hopefully soon). *crosses fingers*

Now I'm moving on to Allegiance, by Zahn. I'm excited for this one, because, of course, Zahn!! :) After that, I'm moving into some older stuff, such as The Crystal Star, Darksaber, and the Thrawn duology (Spector of the Past and Vision of the future. My goal is to finish these 5 novels before school gets back in (which I don't see as being a problem at all...).

Final Ratings:
Darth Bane - 4 Stars
Coruscant Nights - 4.5 Stars
Death Star - 5 Stars!

On a more personal note, I have exciting news (for me, at least!) :p I auditioned a while back for a provincial choir, which only 40 people from across the province are excepted, and I made it! :O I was surprised, but incredibly happy! So I'm going away for about 10 days at the end of August to rehearse and take lessons and generally have an awesome time! We have four concerts at the end, in three different cities. Wish me luck! :)

Well, that's all for now - I'm glad to be back! :D May the Force be with you, Always!
