Hardcover Books are the Bane of my Existance
Hello everyone!

To start off, I'm reading Vision of the Future now (my 13th book this summer), and am thoroughly enjoying it! It was fun getting back to a time period where the Empire and the New Republic were fighting again... it's been a while! And Timothy Zhan, is, as always, wonderful. :D

Now on to the point of this blog...

I was looking forward into the future of Star Wars novels, looking forward to the multitude of exciting projects coming up in the next months and years. Star Wars is, if anything, alive and kicking! :) I was extremely saddened though (okay, maybe I exaggerate a little..) with the amount of hardcover novels.

Up until now, I've been able to stay away from hardcovers easily, as I've read all the older novels, and had no problem waiting for paperback releases because I was so behind anyways. Now though, I've read NJO, I've read Legacy, and I've read many many older novels, and I find myself wanting to buy novels as they are released because I've "caught up", in a way. I've really been wanting to read Fate of the Jedi, but haven't because they are, alas, all in hardcover.

I have a couple problems with hardcover books, first of all being price. I just don't have the money to buy books at 20 or even 30 dollars apiece when paperbacks are only $10. Also, they take up too much room. My room is the only place where I can keep all my SW "stuff", and I've only got room for one bookshelf. It is overflowing. I mean, literally. Hardcovers would just make that even worse. Finally, portability is severely lacking. I carry a book around with me everywhere I go, and it's much more difficult to take a huge, heavy book around than it is to throw a light paperback in my backback, or, even better, in my pocket (yes, I do do that).

So, you understand, as I was looking through the list of upcoming novels, I knew I was excited for Deathtroopers. Hardcover. I was looking forward to Dynasty of Evil. Hardcover. Backlash and Allies are coming up. Hardcover.

And all these novels take about a year to be re-released in paperback. Argh!! X-(

So I might have to get over my intense dislike of hardcovers, pay double, and read the books I want to read earlier. I don't know, I'll have to see how desperate I get when I see them on the shelf at the bookstore.

There is good news for me though: Millenium Falcon, Shadows of Mindor, Outcast, Omen, Abyss, and Dynasty of Evil paperback re-release dates were all listed. The bad side to this? The last one on that list is slated for November. 2010. :_| Call me negative, but this makes me more sad than happy.

Well, end of rant. :p

May the Force be with you, Always!

PS I'm out of town for about 10 days starting tomorrow, so no blogging from me for a while! :)

This paperback is very interesting, but I find it will never replace a hardcover book - it makes a very poor doorstop.
