Birth, Death and Rebirth in ROTS
Check out my new essay on Birth, Death, and Rebirth at the fabulous Saga Journal site:

While you're there, read Reihla's piece on the allure of Darth Vader.

Awesome. I never thought about he Opera being a fertility symbol, but the symbolism in the end scene with Anakin on the operating table and Padme giving birth I noticed in the theaters immediatly.

Don't forget about the attack on the Death Star looking strangely like fertilization...;)

Oh, excellent essay. You really nailed the use of that theme in ROTS. I think you could expand it to include the multiple instances of the theme used in the OT as well, as Luke goes through his own death and rebirth in a metaphorical sense, as does Han, Lando, and heck, even C-3P0! But again, great job!

Sont of a Bith--I might have read somewhere a long time ago that the Death Star detonation in ANH resembled fertilization. Come to think of it, it does!

Frostor--Thank you! You're right there are birth and rebirth themes in the OT as well, I just chose to focus on ROTS. Maybe it's a topic I can revisit in the future.
