We never hear the words of the Prophacy of the One - only "you're refering to the prophacy of the One who will bring balance to the Force." So that's all we have to go off of - and even Yoda says it could be misinterpreted.

So what happened? Is Anakin the 'One', created by the Will of the Force to destroy the Sith? Or were they wrong? Did the Force ... make a mistake?

There are several various possibilities.

1) Anakin is not the One. Shmi doesn't remember or isn't talking about the Father (she is a slave after all - something could have happened she doesn't want to talk about). Sure Ani's strong, but not the One.

2) Palpatine eludes to Darth Plageus' ability to convince the midichlorians to create life. Of course, he also tells Anakin that Plageus could stop people from dying, then retracts that statement and says that together they might figure it out. Did Plageus or Sidious have something to do with Anakin's creation? Did they make their own apprentice - more more powerful than any before? Perhaps there were a bunch of little Ani's spread around the galaxy waiting for a Jedi to find them. Or perhaps Sidious had a vision of the future - saw his opportunity, that in 10 years he could make his move against the Jedi.

3) Anakin is the One - created by the Will of the Force. He is the force of Nature that can and will bring down the Sith at last. But those very emotions that give him strength are his weakness. Perhaps if he had been allowed to love Padme, could seek Yoda and Obi-wan's advice openly - then the temptation of the Dark Side would not have called him. But it did. But those same emotions that pull him down, will also lift him back up again - and he fullfills his Destiny as the Choosen One.

But this choice begs the question - if Anakin is the One - why was he born to a slave woman? Why not to some Jedi Master, or woman within the Republic so he could be found and raised by the Jedi from birth? Why put the odds against him right off the bat? Perhaps the answer is.....

4) Anakin is the One - created by the Will of the Force. But there is more than the Sith corrupting the Galaxy. The Republic is nothing more than beaurocrats, bribes and corruption. The Jedi Order has become sanctimonious, arrogant and blind. The slate must be wipped clean. Anakin does fullfill his Destiny. Anakin didn't fail.

5)Anakin is the One - but there is something more. Something ... elusive. If the Light side is Stronger than the Dark - then how is the Dark side able to blind the Jedi? Why is their ability to use it diminished? The Dark side is the natural compliment to the Light side - there must be both to have balance. LIke any good eco-system - there are always many grazers & herds - and a few preditors. But the balance has been tipped to Darkness - how is this possible? There must be some un-natural factor disrupting the flow of the Force. Is it just the Sith users alone? Or is there something else - something that can hide itself from the Force? Is the only way to stop it to journey into the Darkness to find it? This is why Anakin is the One - he can and will desend into that Dark to find this unnatural evil - but he can be lifted back out again to see to it's destruction. Is there more to this story? Has the journey to the heart of darkness just begun?
