Star Wars And Religion
We all know about the Jedi, the Sith and the Force, but what about god? After the Jedi purge, the public is taught that Jedi and their teachings were evil, so what religion do they assume? Does Palpatine try and say he is a divine figure, making Imperial facism a religion of it's own? I'm not speaking of tribal worship or local, sects but of organized religon, similar to Earth's largest religons, Christianity, Judaism and Islam. Also, are certain relgions limited to certain planets? What are the customs of these religions? So far, all we have attained is a multitude of questions and very little answers. It is interesting how the Jedi influence the Republic, making the boundary of church and state very thin, but after the rise of the Empire, the force and the Jedi begin to fade from history. In A New Hope, both Luke and Han seem to know very little about the Jedi. Luke I could understand, but Han, having travelled the galaxy, still knows little about the former heroes of the Republic. So far we know that planets such as Kashyyk and Endor are based on tribal faiths, ancestral and idol worship. Coming back to the point, what of the high society types of Coruscant? Is greed their only god? With the amount of corruption in the Empire it seems so. Religion is skirted very much in Star Wars. We never see any religious gathering places, or rituals such as praying and fasting. The only time we see any amount of religion in action, it involves the Jedi or the force. What can we say of religion and Star Wars then? May the force be with you, and that's about it.
